My approach is rooted in the belief that no matter what a person has going on, there is always an internal compass guiding them towards integration. In our sessions, we will incorporate Jungian/depth psychology, IFS/parts work, relational psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory, & mindfulness (MBCT). We can also incorporate creativity therapy, dreamwork, and body-focused techniques.

My approach is interactive in style and depth-oriented, using psychodynamic, existential, and relational therapies.
Wanting to know yourself more fully? When we enter therapy, we are choosing a process of looking deeper into the truth of our lives and the parts of our core selves. Although those prospects may sound frightening, good therapy is a gift that we give ourselves: a gift of understanding, cultivated compassion, and widening clarity. I believe therapy is a collaborative process that should incorporate curiosity, acceptance, and connection. My goal as a therapist is to help people authentically connect to their truer sense of selves in order to live more fulfilling lives and have more meaningful relationships.

With individual clients, I use short-term psychodynamic therapy and parts work.
I enjoy helping clients explore and better understand how experiences growing up have affected them throughout their lives, including right now! I also enjoy working with clients who are seeking support navigating current relationships. Many of my clients have experienced past trauma, including complex, chronic and relational trauma. No matter your past, we’ll work to identify your goals and exactly what kind of life you’re hoping to have. We'll also process and challenge beliefs or experiences that may be holding you back.

I work from a psychodynamic and systemic perspective, specializing in substance use, interpersonal relationship issues, depression/anxiety, trauma, transitional periods in life, and identity issues.
Let’s face it, life can be rough sometimes. Just when you think things are about to settle, another thing pops up. And when you're in the thick of it, asking for help can be tough. That’s where therapy can be a game changer. Looking for a therapist and finding yourself here is a wonderful first step to making things a little less tough. So who is this guy? I’m a queer identified, Latinx, male therapist with eight years of experience and a passion for working with folks from all walks of life, including adults and teens, LGBTQ+ people, and people living with HIV.

I utilize evidence based practices such as modern psychodynamic, somatic, EMDR, and IFS-informed interventions intuitively to help client's navigate life's challenges.
You want to feel more at peace with yourself, your relationships, and your life experiences. Maybe you feel anxious and overwhelmed by work and life's responsibilities. Perhaps you find yourself having the same types of relationship issues over and over. It may be that you experience complexities with food and your body. You'd like to better understand the “whys” of how you are and to transform these painful patterns for good. I believe that through collaborative work together, deep-rooted change is possible. My aim is for us to explore your pain and stuck points, together, to ultimately create more ease and fulfillment.

The question I see on the face of almost every new client I meet is: Where do I even begin?! You likely have a complicated story to tell and need someone to help you untangle it, but WOW does that feel daunting. The foundation of my practice is relationally psychodynamic, which is a fancy way of saying I want to help you understand the patterns in your life, help bring to the surface unconscious motivations that have led to self-defeating behaviors, and help you understand how your relationships have affected how you experience trust, safety, and connection. I use humor and metaphor, and value building a strong therapeutic alliance.

People I work well with often experience prolonged feelings of sadness or anxiety and want to feel more satisfaction in their lives. They can have behaviors that they can’t seem to rationalize or are counter to their values and goals. My clients often seek help with relationship problems, intense feelings of anger, fear, or shame, traumatic histories, isolation tendencies, or technology issues. Clients with these concerns have found support during my sessions as we build an insight into their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that they can make informed and conscious decisions as they navigate life's stressors.

Often it can be difficult to deal with painful life circumstances on your own. Therapy with an experienced professional can help you address these difficult issues in a supportive yet challenging environment. I am committed to working collaboratively with my clients to meet their goals and tailoring therapy to their specific needs and experiences. Additionally, I am deeply committed to providing culturally responsive treatment to every client I work with. I believe this is crucial for any type of psychotherapy to be effective and helpful.

I help clients feel less anxious and more authentic in their relationships. I believe that many people experience struggle in their lives as a result of growing distant from their emotional compasses. I work with individual clients and couples to reconnect with these aspects of their experiences. Please note that I am only available for sessions via telehealth.

Depression, anxiety, trauma, obsessions, etc live in the mind's dark corners and create cages that breed and maintain pain, stagnation, isolation, and an inability to think. If your suffering feels like a never-ending cycle and a lifelong struggle, you’ve come to the right place. There are no tricks or quick fixes -despite what some might promise- so, let's explore your history and mind's process, and discover your strengths within. Once you finally understand the patterns and process the internal conflicts that have been keeping you stuck, the cage can be dismantled.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
