I am well versed in EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and DBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
Do you experience distressing emotions that appear to you, and perhaps to others, to be excessive given the current situation? Do you tend to be highly reactive to certain triggers? Is there one or more dysfunctional belief that you believe about yourself that on an intellectual level you know is not true? Contact me today for a free phone consultation to see if EMDR might help you release what no longer serves you.

I specialize in a type of therapy that believes your problem or issue is external to you as a person. It lives in the world, not in you. In my practice we put that problem out in front of us, then step back and examine it. Looking at the problem as separate from you helps you understand it better and allows you to you experience yourself in new ways. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) and Narrative therapy to treat survivors of trauma, whether that is Big “T” (profound and debilitating) or Little “t” (smaller “everyday” or less pronounced events).

I utilize evidence based practices such as modern psychodynamic, somatic, EMDR, and IFS-informed therapy to help clients process and navigate life's challenges.
Choosing to embark on the therapeutic journey can be both frightening and exciting, and is certainly is always brave. Being willing to ask for support, to be with the thoughts and feelings that are present, and to dive into the past may feel incredibly vulnerable, but doing these things with a trusted and skilled clinician can transform the ways we feel about ourselves, our relationships, and our world. I aim to create a warm space that feels unconditionally accepting in order for us to work together to better understand yourself and your experiences. I find that this deep work ultimately creates more peace, ease, and fulfillment.

At Emerald Lake, I focus on helping clients address trauma, stress and anxiety by blending EMDR with supportive talk therapy.
I wholeheartedly believe that LGBTQIA+ folks deserve excellent counseling support in spaces where it's safe to bring our full selves to light. Therapy is a place and experience where we can grieve and heal trauma, understand and develop our relationships with loved ones and community, and each create a healthy relationship with ourselves- one where relentless inner critics can transform into wise and compassionate friends. What healing work might you be able to do in a space where you feel safe?

I work with a variety of treatment approaches, including mindfulness, nervous system regulation, EMDR for current or past traumas and neuroscience to lower anxiety.
This time of year is stressful and maybe you are questioning your drinking or you know something needs to shift because you feel disconnected from who you want to be. People around you think you have it together, but they don’t know how much you drink or how anxious you feel. It’s exhausting keeping it all together and you want more from your life. Whether you are a gray area drinker, taking a break from drinking or fully in recovery, you are welcome here.

On your best day, you are bright, bold, and badass; feeling really great because you've got your shiz *almost* together. On your worst, you may feel insecure (doomed, even!), crushed by worry, binging food/booze/Netflix, and wanting to hide under your covers forever and ever. And if you're like most of my ambitious and high-achieving clients, these days can even be in the same week, which is really frustrating, confusing, and downright exhausting. Or maybe you suspect that your drinking is a little OOC, or getting in the way of the life you know you could have. You deserve so much more. Want someone who gets it? I got you.

We are all a product of our stories; the good, the bad, and everything between. Many times, we aren’t aware of how rooted we are in past beliefs and relationship narratives or how deeply they’ve impacted our current choices and decisions. Therapy allows us to uncover the different sides of ourselves, to unlearn unhelpful beliefs and to emphasize positive ones. Together, we can create a collaborative environment that will help you gain a greater sense of self-awareness. I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety, depression and PTSD with a range of modalities including EMDR therapy, IFS and Accelerated Resolution Therapy.

In addition to my education and 21 years of practice experience, I have completed extensive EMDR training.
I see psychotherapy as a very essential tool for addressing difficulties, building skills, and honing strengths so that you can live your fullest life. Let's face it, life can get complicated. Sometimes even your day-to day can be hard. And the unexpected does happen. Some things we are not meant to go through alone. I can help with the everyday struggles as well as with the big, once-in-a lifetime events that we will all experience.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
