It takes courage to seek support, so I take that to heart when working with people of diverse histories and needs. Perhaps you have had depression, trauma, anxiety, loss, life transitions, or other stress that you are ready to heal. I work most effectively with clients willing to look into themselves and their lives with both depth and compassion. If you are seeking an approach that is holistic, integrative, trauma-informed, and empowering, we may be a good fit for counseling. My intention is to help you find your own inner capacities to heal, grow, transform, evolve, learn, and become.

Look at birds: they make great sky circles of their freedom. How do they learn to do that? They fall, and in falling, they are given wings. -Rumi ...In the course of being human, we all face losses and traumas of different degrees and in the process, find ourselves abandoning parts of ourselves in order to survive emotionally and interpersonally. Therapy is about reclaiming those parts and finding our way home to who we truly are.

My work specializes in trauma informed care and spiritually focused counseling. I am trained in EMDR and Somatic Experiencing. I have learned throughout the years that thorough healing comes not only from addressing our wounds and traumas but from a deep exploration of what we have decided about ourselves and our place in the world. I am highly valued as a compassionate, competent therapist who will provide understanding and skills that support moving through and coping with traumatic events/responses recent and past, and the spiritual evolution born out of traumatic wounds.

We all have our specific and unique backgrounds and circumstances that bring us into therapy, but I have noticed that many of us are seeking more meaningful and secure connection with other people and deeper emotional safety as we navigate the world. When we have been hurt or traumatized, we naturally develop symptoms that affect how we relate with people and how we try to cope in our lives. I love working with people who have the bravery to enter therapy in order to understand and honor how they have arrived at their current patterns in relationships and in life and then grow into ones that are more meaningful and joyful to them.

Many of my clients have been in psychotherapy/counseling before and start working with me to go deeper to transform from the repetitive relational patterns that hold them back. Most of my clients value psychotherapy and see the benefit from telling the emotionally significant story of their lives in a confidential safe setting. Trauma, addiction, depression, and anxiety are issues that I have the most experience relating with. Some of life's dilemmas require a conversation to resolve. A conversation that weaves past and present, fantasy and reality, desire and inhibition to form a detailed understanding of one's life.

I bring experience and enthusiasm to my work with people struggling with substance abuse, addiction, depression, and anxiety. My emphasis is not only on the immediate needs of getting sober but the long-term process of learning to live life in a joyous and clear way. I utilize many techniques to achieve this, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), skill-building, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness based practices. A whole-person approach is incorporated utilizing resources such as nutrition, physical growth, and mindfulness-based modalities. My therapeutic style is both collaborative and supportive.

Do you ever wonder if there is more to life, are you in a life transition, maybe not quite feeling like yourself? You are not alone. It’s called being human, we all at times in our life need extra support. I believe that healing is possible for individuals who have the desire, the support, and the willingness to participate in their journey towards wellness. Life gives us all opportunities to know ourselves and grow from our experiences.

I believe that each person has a deep wisdom inside of them, and part of my job is to help you learn and remember how to trust yourself. Supporting people to cultivate both self-awareness and self-compassion are a central focus of mine. I also feel passionate about cultivating a safe and trusted connection with clients that provides the opportunity for healing and growth. Each of us has a unique journey and I help people to feel more at home in themselves, both in times of joy and hardship. Learning to support ourselves in times of pain and suffering takes practice, and we are not meant to do it alone.

I am passionate about helping people work through major life transitions, which can so often be accompanied by grief, pain, and complicated feelings. As we move along each of our journeys, some moments need more time to process and be witnessed. Becoming a parent, losing a loved one, moving, loss/change of a job. I want to help honor these changes by holding space with patience and a compassionate understanding.

For most of us, living a life without pain and suffering is the ultimate goal. Oftentimes, we try to change or control everything in our external environment to find peace and happiness within ourselves. We may change jobs, move to a new city, or seek out new relationships – only to find that our pain and suffering still exist. As a result, we feel hopeless or powerless over our lives and may resort to destructive behavioral patterns to cope with our emotions. Over time, we may realize that – no matter where we go, or what we do – we are always left facing ourselves.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
