I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who focuses on the needs of men in their twenties and thirties. Some of my clients are experiencing interpersonal crises, or require talk therapy as part of psychiatric care, but many of my clients simply find it beneficial to meet once a week and discuss what is going on in their lives. My clients come to see therapy as a way to connect and accept the values and desires that make them who they are, and also to find the power to cast away habits that are not resonate with who they are. The goal is more genuine freedom.

You’ve tried countless things to change your life. You keep working harder to improve yourself, but you’re still dealing with self-esteem issues, people pleasing, and self-sabotage. The self-doubt creeps in and you wonder if you’ll ever get better, if you’re not good enough, or if you should just quit trying. The uncertainty grows, and you feel like you’re drowning, not sure what to try next.

After 20 years in the health and wellness world I developed a deep belief that we have what we need to heal ourselves. Each of us carries an innate wisdom in our bodies and we need guidance and support to tap into that innate healing capacity. I am passionate about being witness to that process and working with individuals to creatively find our way to healing.

“Therapy to help authentic souls navigate the wilds of life.” My most crucial long-term relationship has been with the great outdoors; my first therapist was Mother Nature. I have used my time in this mighty space to align the things that make my heartbeat: people, nature, and the power of self-development. The outdoors is a powerful resource that helps us feel grounded and at peace, immersed in all Mother Nature offers. My approach is whole-bodied, holistic, mindful, bodily, and expansive. My goal for people is to feel good in their skin and reach their true SELF. I offer indoor, virtual, and outdoor therapy.

Not accepting new clients
Nya is on maternity leave and not accepting new clients at this time. Please email requesting to be added her waitlist. I believe that the relationship between a therapist and client is the agent of change in therapy. Making the decision to come to therapy can feel like a big step and my goal is to support parents, who are the experts in their children, learn new skills to support and understand their child. I also support parents in the transition to parenthood with all the joys and challenges it brings. I take a humanistic approach and deeply value and respect the unique strengths that each client and family bring to therapy.

I treat individuals experiencing symptoms of grief and loss, trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, life transitions, and relationships. I have experience working with individuals of all ages in both clinical and crisis settings. I believe personal growth and change happens when the counseling process is purposeful and intentional. I want to assist people in understanding their problems, defining goals, and developing realistic action plans. Together, we’ll identify the nature of the problems that you’re dealing with and find the solution best suited to your goals. It would be an honor to work with you.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
