Gray matter, matters! I perceive the world as a “gray person”, a hu manistic worldview that honors the exploration of personal and systemic experiences by eliminating all-or-nothing thinking, opening the door to endless possibilities of growth, understanding, and connection.
When you walk through my door, I welcome each of you into my tribe. The innate vulnerability and humbleness of your mere presence are both respected and appreciated. In our shared space, values are rooted in empathy, awareness, accountability, and integrity. I believe only YOU are the true expert and historian of your life, and I graciously stand beside you on this path of exploration, healing, and endless growth. I am an ear, a tool, a voice, and at times a guide to support you on this beautiful and winding path.

Therapy for many individuals is a place that has been avoided for a long time! I welcome counseling as a place of discovery to those who are interested in learning more of what therapy can look like or to even continue on a journey in therapy that you may have already begun.
I have clients that come to therapy for a wide range of issues. Most often, client goals begin with relief from pain, sadness, guilt, shame, confusion, addiction and many other symptoms related to distress. I have found that many clients who seek therapy are surprised to learn how past and present are related and how someone can influence future through choice, meaning, and intentional use of personal strengths. I am passionate about keeping the therapeutic relationship collaborative and empathic, while striving to weave empirical interventions with hope and perseverance.

In our sessions, I address the four essential aspects of the hu man condition: the body, mind, relationships, and consciousness.
I know it's difficult to find a therapist with all the choices in front of you so I’d like to take a moment and encourage you in your search. There is hope, support, and the potential for things to improve. It may be overwhelming in this moment, but just the fact that you are searching through profiles on Psychology Today tells me that you have the desire and the ability to work towards positive change.

I am very experienced counseling adult men & couples.
I promote improvement in my clients' quality of moods, relationships & sense of purpose. Welcome. My name is Trey, and I’m glad you’re here. You can expect to be heard, validated, and encouraged with me as your counselor—and you can expect to be challenged in areas where more insight or action is needed for you to reach the tipping point that leads to breakthrough moments. I approach counseling from an integrative model, with a particular emphasis in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I believe counseling is highly relational, and once a strong therapeutic relationship is formed we identify your specific goals and work towards them.

The path to invulnerability is to be -in- vulnerability. With 8,000 hours of wilderness therapy experience, I honed my skills guiding young adults and teens through a myriad of neurodivergent, mental, emotional, and personality challenges in the backcountry. My journey continued with nearly 1,500 hours of psychedelic integration work and coaching. My primary focus is 'religious harm reduction for LGBTQIA+ couples,' though I serve diverse populations. Using somatic techniques and Chinese philosophy, I help clients navigate their path back to self-compassion and connection.

“I don’t know what to do, I feel stuck.” “I’ve never felt so alone.” “This is too much for me to handle.” “My past keeps getting in the way of my daily life.” These are some of the common concerns I’ve heard from clients dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma. You don’t have to face life’s challenges alone, and it doesn’t have to feel overwhelming, scary, or isolating. Therapy can help you overcome obstacles and provide useful tools for the future.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
