I am trained in ACT and Brainspotting and I am an LGBTQIA+ affirming counselor.
You expect a lot of yourself, and when you struggle to keep up, you feel guilty and your inner critic pulls out the megaphone. Even when you have some time to relax, you find yourself focusing on all the other shit you "should" be doing. Maybe you want more from life and you're not sure what that looks like or how to make it happen, and you want your inner critic to quiet down and take a day off! You want to find a way to be yourself and do more of what's really important to you.

I work from an anti-diet, intuitive eating, and Health at Every Size (HAES) framework and often incorporate body neutrality and acceptance principles into sessions.
Hi! I’m Kenzie. I specialize in eating disorders, body image, anxiety, and depression. I became a therapist because I am passionate about letting others know that they are not alone in the pain they experience. I have personally experienced how mental health challenges can leave you feeling hopeless about ever being able to live life without being overwhelmed and consumed by feelings of anxiety, shame, and self-hatred. I'm honored to be able to bear witness to my clients’ stories and support them in discovering their ability to manage distressing feelings, break free from shame about food and their bodies, and live meaningful lives.

I believe that wherever you are in your life journey you are capable of change, restoration, and growth. Therapy can be the perfect vehicle for the change that you would like to create, by providing a safe, nonjudgmental environment to connect and talk. Maybe you would like to experience more self- acceptance, more hope, less stress, or less anxiety. You deserve healing, and you don't have to walk the path towards a more whole version of you alone.

As your guide, I would bring research-based therapeutic treatments to the journey including EMDR (one of the leading trauma therapies), ERP (gold standard for OCD), CBT/ ACT (talk therapies for anxiety, depression, etc.
Negative beliefs about ourselves can keep us trapped in our bodies and minds, and when our inner critic is at the helm, we can go down spirals that seem to cement our beliefs of not being good enough, lovable enough, successful enough, etc. You may logically know these harsh thoughts are untrue, but if there is a disconnect between mind (I know this isn’t true) and body (but it feels like it is), you are not alone- and there are steps you can take to find harmony between mind, body, and soul. As your trauma-informed therapist, I would be honored to be your guide for this integration process.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
