There is only one you in the whole entire world and my goal is for you to be able to live your life to its fullest. Seeking out healing is a brave step to take and it shows that you want to live healthier and deal with the issues that are keeping you from that. We cannot always change the things that happen to us in life, but we have a choice to seek help and healing to help our future. So good job already taking this first step!

I help adults including parents, pregnant and postpartum women, and those from multicultural backgrounds who are feeling disconnected from themselves or loved ones to improve their relationships so they can feel more fulfilled and self-assured. As a parent or expectant parent, you want the best for yourself and your family. But maybe you are losing confidence in your role as a parent or your connection with your partner or children is unraveling. Or maybe you don’t want to lose your identity as you assimilate into US culture. Many of my clients experience anxiety, depression and grief as life changes occur. I can help!

I work exclusively with Men and with Couples. My work is focused on creating the relationship in which feelings can be shared fluidly, where the space itself that we all have created together fosters the communication and honesty that will be the bedrock of the work that will follow. All is welcome, there is no judgement and no criticism. The power for change exists within all of us and together we can find, fostered and or reveal that power.

Trauma is inevitable, but it does not have to overshadow our entire lives. I work with folks who have experienced trauma of all kinds and are interested in leaving behind the habits, patterns, and feelings that no longer serve them. Whether your trauma was acute, such as accident or loss, or longstanding, such as abuse from parents or partners, my work is to help folks rediscover their inherent ability to feel safe, connected, and capable. My work is nestled in understanding of how our social, political, and economic conditions lead to passing on trauma and distress.

While life is filled with wonderful and difficult aspects (and everything in-between), walking through those more difficult parts can leave one feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and isolated. Having a secure and confidential space to grieve, process changes, and make sense of your story can be incredibly healing during these times. My heart as a therapist is to be a secure person who welcomes and honors all parts of you, to walk alongside you in your hurts and hopes, and to empower you with the confidence and tools to carry with you through life. With a warm and welcoming environment, we can explore, grow, and heal together.

Lately, you can barely get out of bed and muster up the energy to go about your basic tasks. You still haven't fully recovered from the past and now your current life is bringing unbelievable stress. Honestly, anxiety and depression are kicking your butt - again! Your daily responsibilities, job, and relationships are suffering. Friends are distant and days go by where you barely talk to anyone. Minor frustrations send you into an irrational rage where you want to scream and cry at the same time. Your past pain and current stressors are threatening to hold you as a prisoner. It's a lonely place and it feels like there's no way out.

Do you have a teen with whom you are constantly at odds? Do you feel like every conversation ends up in a fight? Perhaps you see troubling behaviors and patterns emerging (e.g. substance use, pornography, concerning friend choices etc.) and you have no idea how to help. These types of problems demonstrate that nothing can shake a parent's confidence quite like the teenage years. Conversations that once came with ease are now laden with problems and may make you feel you failed as a parent. If you are wondering if there is any hope at all, I'm here to tell you that there is.

I love working with people struggling with anxiety, panic, trauma, or who are pregnant/postpartum, who are wanting to figure out how to function better and feel more contentment and calm—even in today's increasingly overstimulating, complex, and inequitable world.

I strive to give each patient the experience of being clearly seen and deeply understood. This occurs through interactive inquiry into the unique life experiences of each person. As we explore the sources of anxiety and distress that typically bring someone in to see me, trust develops and becomes the foundation for continued growth. Gradually, suffering diminishes, and there is an increase in self understanding and personal freedom. My hope is for each patient to live fully in the present with a strong sense of self, and with the capacity to have relationships that are rich and deeply satisfying. .

If you struggle and remain unhappy I'm glad you'd consider letting someone help. Suffering is a serious matter. People suffer from many different and individual reasons such as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, addictions, or histories of abuse, neglect or trauma. Many people suffer with issues related to sexuality (being gay, lesbian, sexually-addicted, HIV+, etc.) Shame is a damaging experience for anyone (gay or straight) and needs to be addressed head on for change. There is hope. Together, we can figure out the best road ahead. Happiness matters. That is true for everyone, including you.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Bow Mar?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
