My therapy is neurodivergent-affirming, trans-affirming, anti-ableist, anti-racist, and culturally sensitive.
Does it feel like you’re struggling to thrive in a world that just wasn’t built for you? We autistic folks know this feeling all too well, and how especially hard it hits when you’re feeling lonely, depressed, anxious, lost, or just completely overwhelmed. Whether you’re just trying to keep your head above water every day or trying to emerge into a new stage of your life, you don’t need to do it all alone. While I specialize in working with autistic adults, these feelings can resonate with folks from all sorts of backgrounds, and I welcome you too. Let’s walk this journey together.

As a first generation South Asian Indian woman, who has experienced an array of life changing events, I have developed a diverse perspective on the human experience. These experiences, along with my own personal self-growth, have helped me cultivate an approach to counseling that is both holistic and creative. I value a therapeutic approach that is grounded in the relationship between therapist and client, skill building, and social justice. Please call or email me to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation.

Do you feel overwhelmed by emotions? Many of us do. We try to push them away until one day that no longer works, and then we panic. Maybe you struggle with worry, a fierce inner critic, trauma, or feeling sad or numb. Perhaps a difficult break-up or loss feels unbearable. Maybe you'd like more clarity about your feelings and how to express your emotions. If this sounds like you, I'd like to help. As painful as these times can be, there is potential for deep personal growth. I can help you find some relief from these struggles, and in the process come away with greater self-awareness, confidence and self-compassion.

You feel stuck between being true to yourself and losing or disappointing those you love. You are tired of feeling invisible or alone. You feel anxious, might never have felt good enough, are burned out, and fear you won’t ever get to live a life you want to be living. You are tired of fitting into the box of who you are supposed to be and want to know, or be, who you really are. You long to feel more free, confident, secure, able to make decisions, and able to reach for your dreams or have a life you feel good in.

I work with adults and teens to overcome social anxiety, perfectionism, hyper-fixation, and life transitions. My clients typically have goals of being able to create lasting and healthy social connections, becoming more loving towards themselves, refocusing their mind on a positive, hopeful future instead of a guilty or painful past, and/or finding a new and inspiring direction in life after a significant transition. They are longing for a deeper connection with themselves, their spirituality, and others. Healthy connection is paramount to finding meaning in our lives.

We all contain the inner wisdom to heal ourselves and move towards being an authentic, positive and loving person. The courage to be vulnerable -by moving toward our pain and confusion as well as our joy- utterly transforms and frees us. I am honored to enter into the sacred space of therapy together with my clients. I use an integrative, trauma informed, and strength based approach combining empathy, mindfulness, and radical acceptance as well as a plethora of therapeutic tools (ie--imagery, parts work, role play, body/somatic awareness). I have a passionate social justice orientation and am experienced in a wide breadth of issues.

I offer support for all forms of trauma. I provide a safe space for individuals, couples and groups to transform old trauma. Through this healing process, the client experiences a sense of choice that may have not been available before. This begins to enhance their relationship with themselves and others. There is opportunity for connection with one's own body wisdom and a sense of inner freedom. This cultivates feelings of empowerment, an ability to trust oneself and to align with what feels true. Client's begin to experience themselves as more present, compassionate toward themselves and others while living an embodied life.

Times are tough right now, and you might be feeling overwhelmed with anxiety, sadness, and loneliness. Some days it's hard to even get started at all. Or maybe you feel disconnected from your partner, like they don't understand you or care, and you wonder if you'll ever feel love again. You might be trying hard to forgive your partner for having an affair, but you just can't, and you're afraid you won't ever get past it. You do not have to struggle alone, and together we can work toward getting you or your relationship to a better place.

I have several passions: 1) I help women struggling with depression and self esteem, especially as they age, to find meaning in their lives. 2) I help parents raise kids who will want to come home for Thanksgiving...and you'll want to see them. 3) I help parents who have made a decision not to work to be full-time stay-at-home parents feel confident and validated in their choice. There is no more important work than successfully raising the next generation. 4) I help seniors dealing with aging issues, depression, and addictions. 5) I help all adults dealing with addictions, depression, and anxiety.

Maybe you've been feeling anxious, depressed or your relationships are struggling. Feeling overwhelmed from depression, PTSD or anxiety can negatively affect your job, your confidence and your ability to be present on a daily basis. You might be thinking - "Nobody knows what I'm going through" - or have thoughts telling you - “You are not good enough.” Maybe you've felt lost and hopeless. You do not have to go through this alone.

Your relationships have just been bringing you stress lately. You feel like you can't "get it together." Like the people you choose to bring into your life hurt you or don't feel good to be around. There's a sneaky feeling that if you showed them who you were, you would not be accepted or loved by them in the same way anymore. You just want to be valued, loved, and wanted for, well, you! "Is that so hard?" you think. There is hope. If you feel sexually, emotionally, or otherwise dissatisfied with your relationships, both romantic and platonic, you've landed in the right place. This therapy is for you & your future.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
