I provide both IFS (parts work) sessions and IFS-informed traditional talk therapy.
I work with clients to help them understand and heal the parts of their personalities that are causing them pain and problems. Whether it is anxiety, depression, rage, overeating, relationship issues, or any other symptom, our parts are involved. Our parts, ultimately, have positive intentions and are, in their own way, trying to help us. When a part becomes entrenched and extreme, it can force us to act and think in ways that make us feel miserable. By having compassion for our parts and helping them heal, we enjoy more connection, serenity, success, and peace.

I believe we each possess our own deep wisdom, a vibrant inner Self that is healthy and whole, and has the answers to even our most troubling problems – things like depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, eating issues, or maybe just life feeling out of control. I employ Coherence Therapy (I have been Assistant Director of Training at the Coherence Psychology Institute since 2014), Internal Family Systems, and Comprehensive Resource Model. All three are experiential, so we can address your problems as directly and quickly as feels right for you. Change can often happen in the very first session.

Internal Family Systems is the foundation of my therapeutic work—I complement this with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), somatic work, trauma-informed practices, and neuroscience research.
Yearning often compels my clients to begin our work together. Yearning for a different relationship with parts of themselves, others, the past. Yearning for wholeness or empowerment in the face of trauma, grief, or tremendous life transitions—maybe all of these. Perhaps clients can’t put their finger on what exactly the yearning is for, but they know they are not fully occupying their own skin. I work with individuals experiencing depression & anxiety, grief & loss, trauma, attachment wounds, and the impact of addictive family systems. When clients relate to themselves in new ways or make formerly impossible choices, I am elated.

I am currently expanding my skillset to use the approaches of Internal Family Systems (IFS) Parts Work and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I believe that admirable qualities exist in all of us and in the courageous human condition to gravitate towards personal betterment even in the midst of hardship. While we strive towards progress, our thoughts and behaviors can fall into rigid patterns. I enable individuals to break through unhealthy habits, extend out of comfort zones, overcome challenges, rediscover internal awareness, and ultimately reach authentic rewards. Each person is their own expert and I will empower you to get there.

I utilize a client-centered, integrative approach drawing from various theoretical frameworks, but primarily practicing from an Internal Family Systems (IFS) lens.
"Loving ourselves through the process of owning our story is the bravest thing we'll ever do." ~Brene Brown~ Have you found life hasn't turned out the way you expected? Sometimes that can be a wonderful thing, and other times that reality can be frustrating to accept or work through. I believe those frustrations, when left unaddressed, can and often do lead to feelings of depression and/or anxiety, and can also put a strain on relationships. I believe therapy should be a safe space to give voice to those frustrations and an opportunity for healing.

IFS, Somatics, EMDR, Mindfulness, Art Therapy and Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy.
Let me take a second and just describe what I believe therapy to be.  Where our environment was unsafe or unsupportive, we developed creative strategies to conform or adapt to intractable situations. Over time, those strategies become chronic habits, often habits we aren't even aware of. Using the present-moment sensations in your body as our guide, you can discover who you are under the mask, heal from trauma, and show up for yourself with integrity and excitement. So the first step is to access the present-moment for your healing and we can open that portal in a lot of different ways, including:

When I'm not enjoying a cup of coffee on my porch swing, watching my Seattle sports teams, or spending time on a trail, I do really love being a therapist. Finding a therapist can be intimidating and scary. I strive to be the type of clinician that my clients feel comfortable with and feel genuinely respected by. Getting to sit with my clients in some of the hardest areas of their lives is deeply meaningful to me. I'm always willing to have a no charge initial 20 minute consultation with prospective clients for them to discern if I would be a good fit therapeutically, so please reach out!

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
