Are you feeling stuck and don't know how to be yourself anymore? Or, maybe you are not even sure who you are anymore? Perhaps you have experienced a trauma that has made you feel completely frozen in time, unable to move forward in a healthy way? If this is you, I understand. Getting unstuck is HARD. Facing our trauma head-on is some of the most difficult work we will ever do. This is where I come in- I help my clients by working through old chapters to move onto new ones. I support my clients in becoming authentically themselves by healing what has rendered them stuck. Together, we can reconnect you with a life worth living.

Women with ADHD and autism often come to me with insufficient or inaccurate diagnoses of anxiety, depression, or mood problems.
I provide full psychological evaluations for all genders ages 16 and up. My main areas of expertise include ADHD, ASD, and PTSD. I have real passion and talent for working with clients who have complex neurodivergence. I use this term to describe people who are neurodivergent in multiple ways or also have trauma to process. People with ADHD and autism have social skill differences that help us get along well with each other. However, we are sometimes pressured to mask important parts of ourselves to fit in with the neurotypical majority. I see you. Let's start where you are now and figure out how you want to grow from here.

Do you ever feel like you spiral over random thoughts that seem to get out of control? Perhaps it feels like your insecurities are getting in the way of you enjoying life? Do you often wonder if things from your childhood are affecting the way you're living your life? Is the anxiety, over-thinking, and constant thoughts getting to you? If so, you are not alone. Anxiety is one of the most common disorders in the US. And different life experiences, such as childhood trauma, can make anxiety worse. Not addressing your anxiety and/or trauma can make your life seem smaller and smaller. Life does not have to be this hard. There is hope!

It can feel really isolating to struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and/or addiction. As if those struggles aren't enough, it can be challenging to connect with people who understand that experience without judgement and can offer appropriate support. Sometimes we just need to talk through our experience to gain more insight. Or maybe we just need to learn some additional communication, boundary, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, coping and mindfulness tools in order to better manage what we’re struggling with.

Hello and welcome, my name is Mikayla. It takes a great amount of strength and courage to reach out for help and support. We all have different experiences that shape the way we view our lives, others, and the world around us. My passion is to be with and work with people so that they may share their stories in a space that feels safe and supportive. It is my hope that together we can help navigate this life and that you feel empowered, encouraged, and motivated to make the changes you need to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Since no two people are the same I work from multiple modalities in a way that best fits your needs.

I currently specialize in women's issues.
I am a Christian psychotherapist who enjoys helping people with various life issues. I aim to come alongside clients to assist with a wide range of challenges. Seeking help for the first time can be scary so I understand that the first step is a significant one. Once we get started, I help clients gain insight using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Insight-oriented therapy, Schema Therapy, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) methods. I graduated from Western Michigan University in 1996 with a degree in counseling and I join you in your efforts for improvement.

I firmly believe that as hard as they are, difficult times are here to teach us something about ourselves. Every struggle can be seen as an opportunity to discover that which is holding us back, and the potential we carry inside. Often times, it is difficult to see a way out because pain, fear, and shame have a way of blindfolding us, taking away hope and clear vision. This is where I can help. I bring intelligence, compassion, and a discerning ear to help you illuminate your blind spots and find your way to healing.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
