Are you dealing with trauma, anxiety, addiction, stress, grief, or loss? Do you want peace of mind and to enjoy success? I help individuals realign with their integrity and strength to make the changes they want. Using Eastern and Western techniques I help clients 're-story' traumas and anxieties that allow them to achieve their goals. As an ordained Buddhist priest and former Chaplain, I also offer spiritual counseling. My experience training/counseling prisoners in the United States and Indonesia taught me how often we imprison ourselves with our own emotions.

As a Contemplative Counselor, I specialize in the use of mindfulness and other techniques to regulate the nervous system and manage stress, overwhelm, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
Are you feeling stressed out? Not getting along with others? Is your mind super busy or is it hard to think at all? Are you having trouble calming down and finding rest? Or are you shut down, stuck, unable to move? Every minute our internal experience is changing. Our nervous system is constantly moving up and down. We can feel worried, afraid, anxious one day, and isolated, sad, and exhausted the next. It’s totally normal for our system to fluctuate, but if we spend long periods in one state or another it can take a toll on our body, mind, and spirit.

Relationships evoke our deepest longings and fears, and touch on wounds that may have been long hidden, wounds which we’ve often lived a lifetime without recognizing. The pain of disconnection we feel in relationships, the heated arguments and periods of distance or alienation, can leave us lost and confused, stuck in emotional knots, with our desire for closeness vying against our protective reactions. Cycles of conflict may escalate, and with them, the pain. All the while, deep down, we quietly long to share ourselves more honestly and fully with those whom we are closest to.

Anxiety, stress, and low self-esteem making you feel like there must be more to life than what you are currently experiencing? Has your relationship with your partner, spouse, or children left you wanting more from these connections? Sometimes the monotony of life gets in the way of us becoming the people we want to be. I believe each individual, couple, and family have particular gifts and qualities that make them unique and I love exploring and harnessing these strengths with you to become the best version of yourself.

— Visit Justinlanden.com to learn more —Aren’t we all, in our unique way, searching to deepen our connection with self and others—to feel a sense of belonging, to be seen, heard, known, and loved? At times, when we feel distant from our self and others, naturally, we experience varying levels of fear, anxiety, sadness, and/or anger; this is the body’s way of letting us know that something isn’t quite right. Instead of pushing away from those signals I encourage my clients to welcome and befriend the challenging emotions. In this way, we can begin to feel more fully connected to all parts of ourselves and others.

I work with clients to help them understand and heal the parts of their personalities that are causing them pain and problems. Whether it is anxiety, depression, rage, overeating, relationship issues, or any other symptom, our parts are involved. Our parts, ultimately, have positive intentions and are, in their own way, trying to help us. When a part becomes entrenched and extreme, it can force us to act and think in ways that make us feel miserable. By having compassion for our parts and helping them heal, we enjoy more connection, serenity, success, and peace.

We all experience moments in our lives where everything is in chaos, we feel disconnected from ourselves, and it feels like we are stumbling through impenetrable darkness. Depression, anxiety, traumatic experiences, and many other mental health conditions can make us feel alone, stuck, and hopeless. My goal is to offer a space in which you can process and work through these difficult moments and to provide hope when you feel isolated in your struggles.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
