Hi! As a parent, it can be heartbreaking seeing your child live through these difficult times or any other traumatic event and no longer seem like the person you once knew. They shut down or get angry without reason. They have difficulties sleeping or seem anxious. Especially during the COVID pandemic, they may be spending all day in their room. Even though you try your best to figure out what's going on and support your child, nothing seems to help. As a result, you and your child might feel lost and alone. Therapy can teach new skills to help your family through this difficult time and become even more resilient.
I use creative and playful interventions (i.e. games, art, play) to help children feel comfortable in session so they re able to express difficult emotions, learn to cope with recent life stressors and process their trauma history. I also involve parents in their child’s therapy as much as possible so you won’t feel like you’re left in the dark.
I use a culturally-sensitive approach and will take the time to understand all facets of who you are and how we can embrace those parts of your identity to overcome adversity.
