My orientation is cognitive-behavioral psychology which focuses on the individual's current patterns of thinking and behaving that perpetuate the emotional dysfunction. Historical issues are addressed when cognitive and/or behavioral change is blocked. Typical presenting problems are generalized anxiety, anxiety and panic attacks (e.g. agoraphobia and specific phobias), depression, and relationship issues.
I also specialize in workers' compensation claims as well as non-work related disabilities and disability evaluations.
General anxiety, phobias, and depression are very responsive to cognitive/behavioral treatment. The internal and external triggers of the emotional distress are identified. Relaxation/meditation is taught to manage the emotional reactions. Problem solving skills are developed.
I have been a practicing clinician for 35 years. I will provide a phone consultation prior to scheduling an initial appointment to provide the opportunity to decide if you are comfortable with me and my clinical approach.
