A broken heart. It is what finally brings many people to counseling. If you have experienced a traumatic event, it is likely that most of your relationships have been affected. Some may be estranged or have ended. The pain of the original trauma compounds with each loss: relationships, jobs, motivation to participate in activities you used to enjoy. Perhaps your health has suffered.
My specialty is helping survivors to understand the effects of trauma; to treat the symptoms and to plan for recovery. Including the people in your life is part of the process. Recognizing the behaviors of a trauma survivor and knowing how to separate them from the person in recovery can make all the difference.
I offer individual, couples and family therapy. A former police officer, special assault investigator and VA counselor, I am experienced in working with law enforcement, first responders, veterans and active duty military members as well as those, who have survived personal trauma.
