Counseling is a journey of self-discovery, growth, and healing. Through counseling, the therapist and client work together to explore the client's inner world. The goal is to increase self-awareness and facilitate change in the client's life. Effective therapy requires that the counselor exhibits respect, authenticity, genuineness, empathy, acceptance, and unconditional positive regard. These qualities are at the heart of therapy and facilitate a healthy connection that allows true healing to occur. I believe the counselor must look at the client through a holistic healing frame of reference.
I believe the role of the counselor, in the counseling environment, is to facilitate clients through the process of change. As a counselor, I want to facilitate the process of a client solving their own problems while also demonstrating a genuine concern and compassion for their dilemmas.
My philosophy as a therapist is to treat each person as a unique individual, worthy of unconditional acceptance, regardless of his or her personal circumstances or struggles. It is my desire to come alongside, challenge, and encourage my clients to find healing emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
