In my counseling training, I learned to integrate the contemporary psychology model with Catholic/ Christian anthropology and theology.
Are you struggling emotionally? Are you making transitions in life? Are you experiencing difficulties in your marriage? I offer a compassionate listening ear and utilize proven methodologies to assist you in healing wounds from the past, reshaping present patterns and relationships, and allowing you to discover that healing is possible. I believe that each individual has inherent dignity and value because they are created by God out of love and made in His image; therefore, all mental health issues must be approached with compassion, empathy, and respect for the inherent dignity of each person.

The story you've been living may be one of pain, suffering, and loneliness. There may be regrets, shame, and wondering where God has been in all the mess. You might even feel like giving up. At 43, I found myself in the middle of such a story, burning out of a career I thought I'd retire from. What changed? I slowly discovered that I could write a new story. Your story, like mine, is not yet fully written. By learning to tell your past and current story more truly, you can begin to imagine a future where a new story can emerge.

When you become aware of yourself feeling anxious, depressed, or alone - you may wonder to yourself, how can I change or is change even possible for me? I believe that change happens within the context of being in connection with others; a felt sense of safety being the key component to be your most authentic self. I see clients who are wanting to grow in curiosity of their story, expand their awareness of themselves in and out of relationships, explore learning how to sit with unprocessed emotions, and build skills to be present with self and others.

We help couples build person-to-person, heart-to-heart, soul-to-soul connections. We all long to be seen, heard, understood, held, and cherished by our precious person. Being in secure connection often conflicts with how life has shaped us. For many of us, relationship experiences have included bumps in the road, needs have been missed, wounds have developed, protections have grown, trust has been broken, limited beliefs have emerged, and parts of us have been hidden away. We help couples explore how life has influenced their interactions and then find lasting ways to heal, connect, repair, meet unmet needs, and build security.

Nobody exists in a vacuum. Although life can be isolating, you don’t have to do it alone. In a time of DIY and instant gratification, I propose connection, collaboration, creativity, and courage in the therapeutic process. Like you, I’m human! I’m a woman, a wife, a mother, an immigrant, a person of faith, a therapist. While I believe everyone is doing their best, I honor and foster a desire for healthy change. For that, I utilize evidence-based approaches to draw on purpose and encourage self-efficacy. I invite and treasure honest feedback, and use the present moment to nourish insight-provoking reflection, and a path for thriving.

Georges Braque stated “Art is a wound turned to light.” I find healing is based on a core foundation of trust, compassion, and a willingness to embrace growth. What we create offers perspectives about our pain and wounds, the invisible and visible kinds, in ways we may not have seen. My endeavor is to guide and support you in expressing and rekindling the relationship between yourself and others in the midst of hurt. The stories shared may not be easy to tell. Even when words are not enough, there’s meaning in expressing what matters to you.

Are you feeling alone or inadequate on this planet of 8 billion humans? Craving love but there's never enough? Are you longing for connection but feeling exhausted by it at the same time? Comparing yourself to the beautiful and "successful" people at work or in the media and falling short? Tired of not being enough? Ugh! I hear you and I get it. Your brain (and mine at times) is a bully tearing you down. It tells you to withdraw from people and stay safe with your pet or porn. But the answer isn't withdrawing or escaping. It all comes back to the relationships you have with yourself and others.

The word trauma means “wound” and so many of life's experiences can leave us feeling hurt, isolated, and confused. Everyone needs help from time to time, to heal from past experiences, navigate important life decisions, and learn how to cope with whatever circumstances they are dealt. I believe in a collaborative and creative therapeutic process that utilizes a variety of modalities to suit the needs of my clients. I also use expressive arts techniques to harness the healing power of creativity and self-expression.

Christian Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?

Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?

Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?

While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?

The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
