Listening defines my approach to your treatment. A major difference in working with a psychoanalyst as opposed to other mental health practitioners is the careful, consistent, deep attention a psychoanalyst gives to listening. Change can occur because the first emphasis of this treatment is understanding, rather than feeling pressured to "do" something. Psychoanalysts develop this skill by engaging in extensive institute training beyond that required for their license. My goal is for you to achieve substantive, durable change through a collaborative approach to understanding the deeper meanings and causes of problems you face.
I specialize in helping people overcome the obstacles which depression, anxiety, and trauma put in their way. The result is a greater ability to pursue opportunities in your work and personal life. A significant element of our work is to pay close attention to unconscious issues and the content of your dreams.
My clinical work is deepened by my engagement in psychoanalytic writing and research. While my clinical license and training is in psychoanalysis, my academic PhD is in sociology, a field in which I remain active. In addition to my practice, I am the director of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute at the Contemporary Freudian Society of New York.
