Parenting is the most important but toughest job on the planet. But parenting is really hard when your child is struggling. It's so painful to see how fear, anger, sadness can take hold of your child. Big emotions turn a simple activity or transition into an overwhelming event. You walk on eggshells to prevent a blow up. Coaxing your child to participate in life is exhausting. You’ve talked gently with your child, encouraged them, tried consequences and rewards. But it’s difficult for your child to verbalize their feelings or they push you away. You feel stuck. You worry how this behavior will impact their future.

Growing up can be tough, and at times it might feel like everything you try when supporting your child isn't working, leaving you frustrated, tired and maybe even overwhelmed. I work to support children, teens and young adults as they work to conquer their current life obstacles and nurture their inner strengths.

Our work together will explore significant relationships in your world: those to your family, your friends, your partner, your children.
You may feel lost right now, but you are actually on your path. Let me explain. I envision therapy as a step along your path. And you are walking along the path of a labyrinth. You begin walking along the path with the goal of reaching the center. Upon reaching the center, you discover yourself.

I hold a Master of Science degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from CSUN.
None of us enter this world with a User's Manual. When something goes wrong in our lives, where can we turn for help? I sometimes think of psychotherapy as an IT helpdesk for mental health related "technical problems." My approach is kind and gentle; only in a warm and safe environment are we free explore our problems and develop solutions.

Additionally, I work with families of toddlers and preschool-aged children to discover if there are neuro-developmental challenges or global delays, college-aged students (including adults) who may need assessment to receive accommodations and supports, and gifted children to discover how to best challenge and keep them academically engaged.
I'm a licensed educational psychologist specializing in assessment and intervention of psychological disorders impacting learning and school performance (e.g. dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, attention issues like ADD/ADHD, neurodevelopment disorders such as autism, and social-emotional disorders). I specialize in psycho-educational assessment focusing on discovering why educational difficulties are occurring and providing intervention recommendations. Families often come to me to discover why their child may be failing in school, or has lost motivation to do their best, or is having behavioral/attention challenges, or when homework takes a long time and/or is a battle (among other reasons).

Deciding to pursue therapy for your child, teen, yourself, or your family is a difficult yet rewarding decision. It is not often that we give ourselves the time and attention to focus on our feelings, frustrations and desires, but doing so can change our perceptions of ourselves and the world around us. My theoretical orientation integrates Mindfulness and solution-focused therapy with cognitive behavioral interventions that will reduce stress immediately.

Child/Adolescent brain and emotional development is an area of focus for me and I continue to participate in trainings that provide up-to-date information regarding cause and treatment of the mental health challenges our children face.
I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, with a BA in Social Work from CSU, Chico and MA in Counseling Psychology from National University. I worked as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor at the Tehama County Health Agency in the Juvenile division and as a MFT Trainee at Manzanita Elementary School, with a caseload of children ages 5-10. Additionally, I interned at a local non-profit, primarily seeing children and teens. I have been in private practice since 2015 with a focus on serving children and adolescents.

As parents are central to their children's lives, it is important to me to involve parents actively in their child's treatment while at the same time maintaining the privacy needed by some adolescents in order to progress in treatment.
I have many years' experience in and a passion for treating infants, toddlers, preschoolers, children and adolescents and their families dealing with a variety of issues including the following: adjustment difficulties, trauma, divorce, attachment difficulties, social problems, depression, anxiety, behavioral problems, and developmental delays. I can provide psychological evaluations when needed to help identify areas of difficulty and of strength, and to guide treatment direction. I also provide psychotherapy to children, adolescents and their families.

The search for a therapist can be difficult, so I am very glad you're here. I have over 15 years of experience in treating children and adolescents through an attachment and relational parent-child lens. I incorporate parenting support into each session in order to best support both you and your child. Much of my therapy with children also includes family therapy as I view parents and families as an integral part of treatment. When working with adults, the work tends to be longer term. I use an attachment and values based lens to get to the core of what my clients are struggling with in order to create new, healthier patterns.

I have a great deal of experience with conducting psychological assessments of adults and children.
Many people struggle with finding their way in life. It is very hard to do it on your own. Therapy is one of many tools that people can use to create and sustain change. My practice tends to draw individuals, couples and families who need support with a variety of different challenges and conflicts.

Child Therapists
Child psychologists in California provide mental health therapy to children and are experts in child development.

Every comprehensive review of therapy with children shows that all credible approaches, when performed by a competent mental health clinician, produce almost the same results. About half of all kids will get better. Of those that improve, 80% will show progress in a relatively short time (likely in fewer than six sessions), the remaining 20% will need longer-term support.

The best child therapists in California build great relationships with the child and the parent. They also see the child's strengths and are open to hearing the child's possible solutions to the challenges the child faces. Finally, a good therapist appreciates the child's culture and is sensitive to the values of the child's community.
