"Alis grave nihil": Nothing is heavy to those with wings. My goal is to help clients learn to fly above their pain, fears, stressors. My job is providing the tools and guidance to recognize the issues. In my practice, these tools might include cognitive or behavioral techniques or other methods/theories, including mindfulness. The approach to wellness might include spiritual or physical health but, in all things, the focus is on the client and it always takes his/her needs and desires as primary. Beyond techniques is always the importance in discovering the underlying causes. There is no one path. For each person it is unique.
My experience includes 26 years with the NYS Office of Mental Health in various capacities/settings. I also worked as a Christian Counselor in coordination with churches. As a LMHC my private practice incorporates the spiritual and includes clients of various walks of faith or none at all. My practice includes individuals and couples.
For me therapy is a means to help clients gain flight above the turmoil and distresses of life. The tools that we use together are meant to provide the wings, not only to overcome immediate issues but also for the future.
