While Cognitive Behavioral Therapy reduces harmful behaviors for many, we use comprehensive Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to reduce treatment interfering impulsivity and painful, mood-dependent behavior. I also use Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT) to increase flexible control, intimacy, and connection for clients struggling with maladaptive perfectionism.
For spouses, parents, and adult children, our approach based on the relational trauma model is for clients to regain a sense of their own reality, to set and maintain limits, and to make important emotional requests. With effective support, family members can make choices they feel good about and respond differently to loved ones struggling with addiction.

Radically Open (RO) DBT Skills Class
RO-DBT is a useful, new approach to reducing the loneliness and lack of social connection that can accompany perfectionism and over-control. This skills-based class emphasizes self-inquiry and social signaling to foster curiosity, flexibility, and connection.
