I work with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and loss who are navigating life stressors and transitions, communication and relational difficulties, and the impacts of intersecting identities of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, social class, and beyond. Together, we work to unravel patterns, process past events, and explore dynamics with the self, others, and society for healing and growth.

I am a licensed psychoanalyst working with individuals to foster a deeper sense of understanding and acceptance. My focus will be on helping you to become more aware of the source of your emotions, and to develop broader perspectives on feelings, thoughts, people, and life in general. Through the work done together you should be able to free yourself from inhibitions, find solutions to your problems, become more self-aware, and suffer less. You can expect an environment where all thoughts and feelings are not only acceptable, but encouraged expression, and where you will be listened to attentively, with no judgment.

There is an intriguing complexity at the heart of therapy. Patient and therapist meet together to consider difficulties in the patient's life. From this shared experience an interesting and challenging thing happens. Versions of the difficulties being addressed in therapy begin to emerge in the therapy relationship. The question is not whether this happens, but rather whether it is noticed and discussed. So, therapy, when it works well, comes to be not just about the patient's life, it becomes a vital piece of that life. Emotionally meaningful experience is generated and dealt with in the therapy itself.

Uncovering deep feelings and internalized anxiety can better help one to understand the motivations for problematic behaviors or interruptions to ones well being. In the search for more balanced personal and professional lives and long term harmony and self esteem, we will work together to uncover those deeper feelings and impulses in a safe, non judgmental space.

Feeling disconnected from oneself can become all too easy in an increasingly fast-paced and interconnected world. I aim to create a warm and non-judgmental space where you can pause from the hustle and bustle and reconnect with yourself and what is most important to you. Processing your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, both past and present, can lead to greater self-understanding and help you recover what it means to live your most authentic and joyful life. We all can heal and grow, and together we will work to overcome barriers and develop tools to help you to live the life you want.

Being rather busy with life's responsibilities, we often neglect to integrate certain troubling experiences; we notice but try to ignore. This may work for a while; yet, without realizing it, we expend valuable amounts of mental energy to push this "stuff" away. Soon unpleasant feelings of worry, helplessness and frustration begin to color our daily life. Working together, we will be able to take care of that "stuff" so that the mind and the body may work optimally and in harmony. You will begin to feel good again being calmer, energized and optimistic.

Life can be a tumultuous journey, especially during adolescence and young adulthood, when the world seems both vast and daunting. Whether it's navigating academic pressures, relationship dynamics, identity exploration, or familial conflicts, these pivotal stages can often leave individuals and families feeling overwhelmed, lost, or disconnected.

Whether you are feeling down, depleted, or in pain; if you’re wondering whether you are good enough, or having difficulties finding the motivation to start your day, psychotherapy is an effective way of rediscovering yourself. It allows you to get to the root of your symptoms and find the answers you are looking for in order to create a more fulfilling sense of self. As individuals, we all experience depression, anxiety, trauma in our lives, often more than once. You do not have to go through these issues alone.

Waitlist for new clients
People are complex, with intricate issues and complicated histories. The ideal client for my virtual private practice is someone who is willing to open up and take the time to explain what makes them “tick”, someone who is ready to take a journey of self-discovery and is interested in finding tangible skills to help them with a variety of needs. Change will not happen in one session, but it can start its course…

You have taken a courageous step in seeking therapy. It is not always easy to talk about how you feel, what you've been through or what you want. Some experiences are beyond words. I see my clients as individuals who have the brilliant capacity to heal and connect with their innate self-worth. I create a warm and comforting space where you will feel seen and heard. My approach is interactive and incorporates an intersectional trauma lens. Together we will look at how your experiences, identities and relationships have impacted where you are now, and incorporate body awareness and strategies to heal.

My goal is to help relieve your fearfulness, sadness, unresolved conflicts, uncertainty, stress, and self-esteem issues. My additional goals are to help you be more of your authentic self, and to realize your full potential. I work with adults only. Most people who work with me report feeling understood, that I get who they are. They tell me that they feel better, and that they experience themselves as more able and effective, leading richer, more fulfilling lives.

For those of us who do not feel loved and appreciated by this world, it can be difficult to trust ourselves and to honor our worth. Maybe the intergenerational traumas and ongoing struggles of our cultures and communities lead us to disconnect from others or to feel dissociated from ourselves. Maybe we diminish our feelings or hide parts of ourselves as survival strategies. When tangible systemic change seems slow or even impossible, it can also feel like self-love and joy are forever out of our reach.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
