Mental health challenges can occur when past or current events become too overwhelming, or when our own emotional state seems as though it is out of our control. When we are living too much in the future, or too much in the past, and not enough time is spent in the present, our system (mind and body) can either become over-reactive, or cause us to shut down. This can lead us to feeling stuck, and disconnected from ourselves and the world around us, as though we are just going through the motions of everyday life. When we tune into the messages of our body, we can begin to feel more connected to self and others.
As a student of Somatic Experiencing, I assist clients with body awareness techniques that allow for the release of painful emotions that have contributed to feelings of being stuck, or out of control. In addition, I have been trained in cognitive therapies, as well as offer equine facilitated therapy.
