I am a counselor who believes in self determination and choices and therefore I believe in assisting individuals, couples, adolescents, and families (of all ages, races, genders, religions) to strengthen their disposition and resolve. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) as a technique to help individuals with PTSD and anxiety. I am an Illinois Supreme Court approved Divorce Mediator which provides me the opportunity to assist couples who are divorcing. Divorcing couples deserve to have a choice in divorcing with dignity while also not spending their children's college fund.
I work with a lot of couples. I think communications is the primary reason that a relationship deteriorates. Once communication takes place a couple begins to understand each other, and then each are able to choose how they want to act or respond in a more informed way.
In counseling sessions I do not focus on right/wrong-good/bad-blame/fault. An individual or couple is coming to see me with serious life issues and they do not need to add guilt to this list. I focus on responsibility, acknowledgement, and ownership in challenging life situations and choices.
