I have over 18 years working in counseling, higher education and career development.
I specialize in supporting working professionals, especially teachers, nurses, and students with anxiety or depression who are struggling in their careers, education or relationships. Many feel stuck, burnt out, angry, and overwhelmed. Chronic stress makes it hard for them to connect with patients, students, administrators, and even their families. Some may prefer to be alone, even though it leads to ruminating over traumatic work experiences and substance use. My clients have demanding jobs, are highly trained and accustomed to solving problems. However, no one is immune to the long-term effects of stress and trauma.

I offer individual, couple and family counseling. My approach is strengths-based, collaborative, and outcome-informed. You are the expert on your own life. Whether your goal is to resolve relationship conflict, recover from trauma or loss, receive parenting support, explore issues of identity and spirituality, optimize your career, or learn how to decrease anxiety or depression, my goal is to walk with you and provide a place where you can express yourself freely without being judged. I believe that just as relationships can be the source of hurt, we also heal through community in safe relationships.

My interests include Faith Based counseling, Women's issues and College/Career counseling.
Sometimes life is overwhelming. Sometimes we feel alone. Sometimes things come into our lives that we are not expecting and they shake us to our core. When this happens, we can't think clearly and we can't see our next step. Whether you are experiencing grief, loss of a relationship or a job, difficulty setting life goals or coming to terms with your current situation, you need someone to come along beside you to help you through. Someone who has been through life's struggles and made it through to the other side. You need someone to help you sort things out so that you can find your own solutions and be able to move forward.

My job as your therapist is to teach you how to identify problematic beliefs that drive your thinking and feeling (programmed from trauma and early childhood training) that are impacting your career, relationships and how you feel moment to moment.
I like to help people who want to make permanent changes in thinking, feeling and decision making. This doesn't happen from learning scripts of how to act or talk but rather from awareness and identification of past programming, and a plan. I have a unique foundation professionally and personally to partner with you in exploring your life and your goals. I will meet you where you are and support you in getting a better life; the one you want. If you realize that you are not reaching your human potential; not truly living, you know it is time to do something. I want to work together to improve your life in the "here and now."

Within themselves, each person has the power and strength to tackle the challenges and difficulties they face. It’s my job, as a clinician, to help them access that power and strength, and I do this by first providing a non-judgmental and positive environment. This allows us to identify the thoughts and perceptions that are influencing their actions, both positive and negative. Real, affirming change can happen when we openly examine the thinking that is holding us back and work to change those thoughts that are no longer servicing our goals. I’m excited to help clients with that self-examination and re-building process.

I would like to take the opportunity to welcome you to a place of healing and growth. One of the leading principles that guide my practice is helping you rediscover your personal power to direct your own life in a meaningful and healthy way. So many different types of hardships can rob a person from recognizing their personal power. They can come to believe they have no choices. Trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, abuse, loss, illness, addiction and other hardships can cause a person to live day to day in an endless cycle of struggle. Common life stressors like college, job, divorce, or retirement can be hard to manage as well.

Have you ever looked at your reflection and wondered who you are? Do you ever feel lost or wonder where you are headed? Confession- I have. I realized later in life that my calling was to become a therapist. Long before returning to college, I received on-the-job training through my own experiences as a mother, wife, friend, and as an individual struggling with depression and anxiety. These experiences helped prepare me for my role as a therapist, along with losing my 34-year-old son in 2023. Just like my clients, I looked for a therapist to talk to, one who would listen and be able to understand where I was coming from.

Finding a counselor you can establish a rapport with, and become vulnerable with can be anxiety causing enough. Being open to the therapeutic process and understanding that things may get worse before they get better when implementing meaningful change, is a risk. That is part of the journey. I have been in the counseling field for over 15 years, after serving in the military. I worked as a school counselor and college counselor.

Integrity. Respect. Confidentiality. These are values I live by personally and professionally. The therapeutic process is based on trust; without trust, the therapist and client will only touch upon the shallowest issues. I am proud to demonstrate the highest level of respect for clients and their concerns. My experience in working with clients who differ from me in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, citizenship, political persuasion, intellectual ability, religion, sexual orientation, and economic status has been positive. Helping clients feel comfortable enough with me to engage in the treatment process is of the utmost importance.

Teens want to be heard and understood. They are facing an abundance of obstacles that they need help navigating. I’m here to do just that. I use an empathetic, non-judgmental approach to connect with my clients and determine the best methods to use to help them reach their therapeutic goals. I have found that including the family in this process has not only been beneficial for the client but the entire family as a whole.

Each person who seeks counseling is on a unique journey with their own needs. We start by understanding what brings them to counseling and then set goals together. Every session may present different challenges, but we work on connecting everything we discuss, using techniques and strategies learned during our time together. This ensures that clients gain skills they can carry with them long after counseling ends.

How you doin'? Do you often say fine, and try to ignore how you feel? If so, I want to ask how are you REALLY doing? Many times we try to appear to be fine even when we aren't. Being honest with yourself about emotional distress, pain, struggle, fear or grief is essential to begin the healing process. Everyone reacts to difficulty differently. Stress in life can cause symptoms of anxiety, depression, anger, or insomnia to sneak up on us. Some may not be readily recognizable until we feel out of control wondering how did I get here. Are you ready to say “I am doing better”?

Career Counseling Therapists

How do I know if I need career counseling?

Determining whether a career counselor is needed involves assessing one's current career and identifying what changes can be made to improve one's overall quality of life. In particular, feelings of loss of motivation, fatigue, anxiety, depression, procrastination, or ongoing levels of high stress can all be indicative of a need for career-related counseling. In addition, individuals changing jobs may want the decision-making support or self-reflection opportunities provided by a career counselor.

Who can benefit from career counseling?

Anyone can benefit from the self-reflection, skill development, and stress management techniques that career counseling can provide. However, individuals who are feeling overwhelmed or burnt out with their current job and individuals considering a major career change may particularly benefit from career counseling to improve their wellbeing. Additionally, individuals who are facing issues in their current job, such as coworker relationship challenges or not meeting performance goals, may benefit from the perspective that a career counselor can provide. College-age or young professionals may also uniquely benefit from career counseling as they make key decisions surrounding education and job training that will impact their career trajectory.

How long does career counseling typically last?

The length of career counseling can vary greatly depending on the needs of the individual and what type of support they are seeking. Career coaching or advising services—which serve clients in a specific, goal-oriented capacity—often last for a shorter duration and are sometimes only a single session or a few sessions in length. In contrast, career counseling as part of a more integrative therapeutic relationship with a counselor may last longer, particularly if the issues faced by the client are longstanding and/or more complex in nature; in such cases, individuals may expect therapy to last multiple months or longer.

How to prepare for career counseling?

Clients can prepare for career counseling sessions by outlining the specific topics they would like to address with the counselor, such as current job challenges or hopes for the future of their career. Compiling one's thoughts on such topics often requires reflection on one's career and future goals, which in itself can be beneficial for session preparation. Clients may also want to put together a list of questions they would like to ask the counselor, particularly if the career counselor they are seeing has particular expertise in a given career area. Conducting research into potential future jobs, training opportunities, or support resources in one's area may also help clients prepare for career counseling by providing them with a background of what resources are available in their area.
