I provide an integrative approach that includes support for the emotional issues that often co-exist with career concerns, as well as incorporating state-of-the-art energy healing modalities to more quickly alleviate emotional distress.
Are you getting everything you want out of life? Maybe you're (still) looking for what you want to be when you grow up. Perhaps you've just been fired or laid off, or the writing's on the wall and you don't know what to do next. Or worse, you have to drag yourself out of bed every day. Maybe you're dealing with an unexpected crisis, or you just want life to have more meaning.

Additionally, I provide career counseling to individuals who are considering a career transition, looking for a new job, or deciding if they’d like to go to school.
Many of us have unknowingly rejected or silenced parts of ourselves that don’t fit with our idea of who we are supposed to be. As a result, life can feel out of balance or even inauthentic. My hope is to create a safe and accepting space for you to feel empowered to implement positive changes in your life. I work with individuals who struggle with depression, anxiety and worry, substance use, stress, trauma, abuse, anger, fear, grief and loss, guilt and shame, and other challenges. I also work with couples who are having difficulty connecting and experiencing issues related to trust, intimacy, and affection.

Perhaps you're in a relationship, family or job where everything is always your fault. You're made to feel not good enough, that you have to try harder despite the other never taking accountability. You have difficulty expressing yourself in fear of the other person throwing it back in your face. Perhaps this mounting pressure from those relationships have made you give up, anxious, or just feel stuck. You don't know who you are anymore—you’ve been told how to think and feel. You may feel like you’re in a fog or just don’t know how to get back on track to the way things used to be.

Whether it's a short lived phase or something more deeply rooted causing issues with your relationships or career, it's not uncommon and it's not something you have to go through alone.
Are you scared of what’s to come? Do you sometimes feel lonely, confused? Maybe unheard or misunderstood. Perhaps it’s a transitional time in your life. Have you lost someone (or something) dear to you? Do you have a decision to make but don’t quite know how to launch? A counselor can be a resource to help you through these adjustments. A set of ears, a sounding board... Whether there’s difficulty with interpersonal relationships you need to further explore, or challenges with current situations you suspect stem from your past, let's explore and navigate

I believe almost all problems are solvable. If you decide to see me for therapy, the first thing I'll probably ask is, "What's going on? Why have you come?" Perhaps you're having difficulty with a relationship or your struggling with a child or your weight. You may be trying to decide if you want to continue in a relationship or look for another job. Or you've noticed that you're drinking too much or getting too angry or obsessing. Maybe you're feeling anxious, depressed or lonely, and despite your best efforts, you can't seem to shake these feelings.

I love my job! I am so lucky that somehow, I naturally am on a path to help other people. Luckily, the good in each person shines through to me. I want you to see that and feel that in yourself and for others to see your amazing inner light too. Sometimes just talking is so helpful, but I also have training in EMDR which is truly effective for big or small traumas. I can also work in conjunction with an existing therapist not trained in EMDR. I am here to support you and give you clarity on how to fulfill your desires and live your life to the fullest. I work with helping you to have manageable relationships. I am here for you.

Are you standing in the face of uncertainty in your life or career and confused as to how to move forward? Does performance paralysis settle in when considering a risk? Do you lack confidence and avoid social situations? Having lived through Hurricane Katrina, resulting in an abrupt relocation to St. Louis in 2008 (after forty years in Louisiana), I can relate to starting over, the absence of family, and the need for grounding. The Covid pandemic was a reminder of how quickly life can change and the necessity for resources. Cumulative traumatic grief is evident in its aftermath as is the need for trauma specialist care in healing.

I can best help adult clients seeking support for anxiety, depression, stress & anger management, academic & career challenges, life transitions, and interpersonal relationships (including couples).
Our world often stigmatizes needing support, but let's face it: no one gets anywhere without help! Change and growth come with challenges, and having the support of a genuine and compassionate therapist can make a positive difference. Whether you are experiencing a significant personal development, struggling to relate to others, or feeling stuck and looking for a change for the better, reaching out to someone trained to help is a critical step towards finding a way to live more authentically. As a therapist, I work with individuals & couples to create a space to process experiences and find a path forward to greater well-being.

Career Counseling Therapists

How do I know if I need career counseling?

Determining whether a career counselor is needed involves assessing one's current career and identifying what changes can be made to improve one's overall quality of life. In particular, feelings of loss of motivation, fatigue, anxiety, depression, procrastination, or ongoing levels of high stress can all be indicative of a need for career-related counseling. In addition, individuals changing jobs may want the decision-making support or self-reflection opportunities provided by a career counselor.

Who can benefit from career counseling?

Anyone can benefit from the self-reflection, skill development, and stress management techniques that career counseling can provide. However, individuals who are feeling overwhelmed or burnt out with their current job and individuals considering a major career change may particularly benefit from career counseling to improve their wellbeing. Additionally, individuals who are facing issues in their current job, such as coworker relationship challenges or not meeting performance goals, may benefit from the perspective that a career counselor can provide. College-age or young professionals may also uniquely benefit from career counseling as they make key decisions surrounding education and job training that will impact their career trajectory.

How long does career counseling typically last?

The length of career counseling can vary greatly depending on the needs of the individual and what type of support they are seeking. Career coaching or advising services—which serve clients in a specific, goal-oriented capacity—often last for a shorter duration and are sometimes only a single session or a few sessions in length. In contrast, career counseling as part of a more integrative therapeutic relationship with a counselor may last longer, particularly if the issues faced by the client are longstanding and/or more complex in nature; in such cases, individuals may expect therapy to last multiple months or longer.

How to prepare for career counseling?

Clients can prepare for career counseling sessions by outlining the specific topics they would like to address with the counselor, such as current job challenges or hopes for the future of their career. Compiling one's thoughts on such topics often requires reflection on one's career and future goals, which in itself can be beneficial for session preparation. Clients may also want to put together a list of questions they would like to ask the counselor, particularly if the career counselor they are seeing has particular expertise in a given career area. Conducting research into potential future jobs, training opportunities, or support resources in one's area may also help clients prepare for career counseling by providing them with a background of what resources are available in their area.
