When an individual or a couple chooses to enter into a therapeutic relationship, they are in essence choosing courage. Willingly putting one’s self in a vulnerable state of self-reflection and honesty is a hard thing for most people. But when this happens in a safe and judgement-free environment, wholeness and freedom can ensue.
I have been working as a therapist for 11 years and have gained experience counseling with couples, families and individuals of many ages (including teens and pre-adolescents). Areas of focus include trauma, substance abuse, marriage, divorce, severe and persistent mental illness, grief, chronic illness, life adjustments, depression, and anxiety.
I utilize a narrative approach along with an emotionally focused approach to therapy. At times, I will also bring in a cognitive behavioral approach. What I believe is most important though is the connection between counselor and client. When trust is built, there is a safety and ability to bring one’s true self to the therapeutic relationship.
