In my experience, psychoanalytic psychotherapy has proven to be one of the best treatments for obtaining long-lasting results and consistent life changes that one desires.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck? Do you find yourself repeating negative patterns? Do you want to make positive changes within yourself and your relationships? I believe that therapy is a collaborative process in which we together determine what you need. Years of experience contribute to my ability to create a safe space that will encourage deep exploration into understanding your emotional concerns. Often after completing the therapeutic process, many come to discover that they have more choices in their lives and report feeling more optimistic and alive.

Welcome to my practice. I have been in practice since 2007 and have been featured on ABC, NBC, and KCAL as an expert psychologist. I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up. These men are often in crisis when we first meet. The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, financial recklessness, gambling, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, and relational conflicts. My therapy approach is a combination of psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.

I have trained in a psychoanalytic modality of therapy, however I have a background of working behaviorally with children, families and parents.
"The pain is there; when you close one door on it, it knocks to come in somewhere else..." (Dr. Irvin D. Yalom). The process of psychotherapy is uncovering the pain, either developmental, situation specific or just existential, and working through it within the bounds of a trusting, accepting and empathetic therapeutic relationship. Throughout the process, I will help you uncover and become comfortable with your authentic self, while bringing into the consciousness some of the themes and motives that have unconsciously ruled your life and became a part of who you are.

I work relationally psychodynamic/ psychoanalytic with present-centered approaches that bring attention and mindfulness to what is overlooked or difficult to address.
Often in life there are unexpected events or life transitions that challenge our abilities to cope or understand our sense of self or purpose. When what has been helpful to navigate life is no longer working, symptoms may show up in the form of sadness, depression, anxiety, stress, physical ailments, feelings of isolation, or an overwhelm of emotions that may be difficult to manage alone. I view therapy as a unique opportunity for honest observation and exploration in service of creating a deeper connection with your inherent nature as a way to discover how you can find support from yourself, as well as, feel supported by others.

As a senior candidate at an analytic institute, I offer a reduced fee for a 4x per week psychoanalytic treatment.
We try to make sense of our lives through telling our stories, but when we are unable to find the words, we express ourselves in other ways, such as in symptoms, dreams, and behaviors that we don't understand. My previous training in fine arts and filmmaking (MFA, USC School of Cinema) make an excellent fit with the type of in-depth therapy I provide. I have a wide range of professional experiences from my private practice, in residential and outpatient clinics, as an adjunct professor of psychology at Antioch University, and as a supervisor training other therapists.

My practice focuses on what is unique to your life experience through compassionate listening & careful attention to the thoughts, feelings, speech, & symptoms of past & present trauma. Those closest to us are not always able to make sense of our most intimate experiences, which can often become a source of distress. I create a safe space in which you can speak freely & elaborate on your concerns in finding the words that make sense of your suffering. I follow a psychoanalytic approach that explores your concerns in-depth, allowing you to be heard, seen, & understood in ways that are attuned to your life context & experiences.

Play therapy is an important component of the specialized child psychoanalytic training process that enables me to develop a relationship with the child.
As a psychoanalyst I believe that an individual's feelings and behaviors are motivated by a variety of unconscious factors often resulting in people feeling stuck. Psychoanalysis helps individuals finally break these habits by understanding their root causes and enable significant changes at the very core of one's emotional responses. Using these experiences, the analyst helps the patient work on a deeply unconscious level to eliminate unproductive and destructive patterns. This opens the patient to new, fresh and genuine experiences and solutions in their lives. This process is achievable through empathy and respect.

My training includes: Somatic Experiencing, Janina Fisher’s Structural Dissociation Model, Pain Reprocessing Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, .
I believe in all people’s innate capacity to heal. To me, all symptoms that we experience whether it be chronic pain, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, etc can be explained by trauma. Trauma does not have to be big events. Trauma can be if we are not attuned to emotionally as children or if our parents have their own unprocessed trauma—this sort of trauma often leads to deep seeded beliefs that we are unloveable and bad. Our healing comes from teaching our parts that we are loveable and accepted just as we are.

I practice psychoanalytic psychotherapy, an empirically validated treatment focusing on our inner life, seeking to understand how and why we feel and behave the way we do, how to live life with more intention and agency, handle our emotional life with more ease, and improve our ability to be in relationships with others.
I am a Clinical Psychologist who helps people live life with more freedom, meaning, depth, and peace. I work with patients from diverse backgrounds who have varied concerns that bring them to psychotherapy: including young adults, parents, professionals, entrepreneurs, and older people. I've been in practice 15+ years and have extensive clinical experience in addition to teaching, writing, and lecturing in academia. I also supervise post-doc psychologists and other clinicians to help them hone their craft. I'd be happy to see if I can be helpful, and if I cannot, connect you with a trusted colleague.

If you are considering a change, want to resolve conflict, or heal the past, you have taken the first step. It can be difficult to finally reach out to someone. Sometimes our problems may manifest as conflict in our relationships and occupations. Managing changes in our lives may create stress and confusion. Loss and grieving may require more support than family and friends can provide. Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy can serve to give you the space to clarify issues and heal.

I have a socio-cultural and mind-body perspective, and my clinical practice is influenced by Jungian, psychoanalytic, systemic, and attachment theories.
Starting therapy can be daunting, but once you open yourself to it, you enter a self-discovery endeavor that can free you from limiting emotional beliefs that block your life. You will feel more confident, less anxious, or depressed and develop more self-acceptance. I work with adults and couples with diverse ethnic, cultural backgrounds, sexual identities, and religious beliefs who face trauma, anxiety, depression, mood and personality disorders, relationship conflicts, parenting issues, aging, and grief. I will focus on treating your symptoms, identifying patterns that led to emotional and relational conflicts, and beyond.

This is followed by proposing with the client, a basic structure within which to proceed, to address the set of problems which have been identified, whether following a Psychoanalytic, or Cognitive Behavioral, or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
My usual clients are young adults, under 45 years age,(I do see children and elders), experiencing mood disorders such as depression, or anxiety. Substance abuse issues are frequently involved, or alcohol abuse. There are always relationship issues with others involved as well. The Goals of Therapy include feeling happier, calmer, more at peace, to reducing substance abuse and alcohol abuse. They want to learn how to improve their relationships with themselves and others.
