Hi, I'm glad you made it. Asking for and finding support is tough, but this is the first step. Tell me, do you find it difficult to stay motivated throughout the day? Are you constantly ruminating on interactions with others, anxious about whether you said or did the "right" thing? Perhaps you spend most of your time and energy worrying about how others perceive you? Or, maybe you struggle to feel deserving to take up space in a conversation or a room full of people? If you identify as a perfectionist, people-pleaser, over-thinker, or struggle with low self-esteem or self-worth, therapy might help cut through some of that noise.

We all go through challenges. Stress, trauma, oppressive narratives, and social conditioning from our upbringing affect our emotions, moods, nervous systems, and sense of self. These experiences can show up as: identity/sexuality issues, depression, anxiety, low self-value, difficulty staying present, and problems with our interpersonal and romantic relationships. You want change but how and where do you start? Unfortunately, life or care-givers don't always teach us these skills. By working together, we can safely work towards finding the authentic, whole person that already resides in you.

There are infinite reasons we seek therapy. You may find yourself disconnected from your relationships and exhausted by not feeling understood. You may feel pressure to be a perfect person, partner and parent, or struggling to name your feelings or needs in your relationships. I strive to co-create an attuned, safe space and our collaboration will center around your hopes, goals, and intersectional identities. When we allow the unfolding of emotional experiences, it can lead us to the emergence of a deeper understanding of yourself, self-acceptance, and connecting to the power and participation you have in relationships.

My approach to therapy is rooted in the power of healing-in-relationship and the engagement of our whole selves in that process. For those interested, my background as a Registered Dance/Movement Therapist allows for utilizing the body, art, and play as a few of the key instruments in the healing journey, alongside traditional talk therapy practices. My theoretical orientation is also integrative of psychodynamic theories, existential theory, mindfulness, interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, and internal family systems.

Seeking therapy is a courageous act. It is a crucial step toward knowing yourself and facing the things you fear the most. Sometimes this sense of fear or anxiety has been lifelong, other times something has happened that completely upends a person’s life. There are also those who appear as though they are keeping it together, while inside they are falling apart. I work with adults, elders and teenagers who no longer want to feel controlled by their fear. They might struggle with identity, purpose, career, substance use, eating disorders, trauma and of course relationships. Many are also queer and/or artists.

I'm honored to center LGBTQ+ folks, people living in larger bodies and/or with chronic health conditions, and others historically sidelined and underserved by psychotherapy. I'm passionate about supporting those working toward embodiment and liberation - both in their bodily vessel and more broadly in their life. I approach therapy with a warm and collaborative style, and make space for creativity in our work. I tend toward compassionate directness, and endeavor to help you 'zoom out' to examine the patterns and overarching issues that create obstacles that you contend with repeatedly in your life.

Online Therapists
Is online therapy as effective as in-person?
Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?
One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.
Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?
Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.
Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?
The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
