I am currently proud to be a part of the With Hope Foundation, a non-profit committed to teaching and understanding teen suicide in schools.
As the founder of Inspired Resolutions my goal is to provide more effective and consistent services for teens, families, and marriages. With over 18 years of experience I began at the Substance Abuse Foundation. I then joined with "Shields for Families" working with the middle and high school population in Compton. In 2007 I became a Drug Court therapist on a collaborative team including probation and legal experts. I am one of the few therapists that has integrated mental health with nutrition and physical health.

My end goal is to provide a way forward through solutions and open communication that strengthens the bond you have with your teen.
Is your teenager showing signs of depression or unmanageable anxiety and you don’t know how to help? As a parent who loves their child deeply, I can only imagine how hard it is to watch your child go through this. I find that the pressures placed on teenagers in today’s environment are overwhelming.

There's passion and enthusiasm that comes with being a teen and that's why I love working with teenagers, athletes, young adults, and parents.
From the outside you are this high achieving teenager that meets everyone's expectations. But on the inside, you have anxiety and are silently drowning. You never feel good enough. You feel exhausted constantly worrying about what others think of you and trying to keep afloat. You consistently push your emotions to the side to please others and not disappoint. You are feeling lonely, outgrowing friendships, and feeling guilty wanting more in your friendships. You feel nervous and anxious about making new friends for fear they won't like you. We understand and we are here to help.

Is your child feeling fearful and anxious? Does he/she have a hard time separating from you? Has your child gone through a traumatic event? Is your teenager appearing to withdraw, and is easily irritable? Is your family currently going through a major life-changing transition? Do you, as a parent/caregiver, feel overwhelmed and helpless? And no matter what you do, your child continues to struggle? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you have made the right choice to be here. You've probably been debating about seeking help for a while. I am glad you found me and have taken the courageous step to seek support.

Exploration of adolescent behavior, conflict resolution and connection offer a way to a peaceful home.
Which therapist is the right fit for you? Someone you trust and provides confidence of being able to meet your needs is the most important ingredient in my line of work. Navigating pitfalls of life and relations doesn't have to be a puzzle. Worrying about the future and thinking of the past can keep us from living. I enjoy witnessing the potentials of others come alive. Giving practical skills to navigate the challenges life allows confidence to shine through. Seeing people meet their goals and grow beyond what they imagined is a realistic outcome for those who choose to enter therapy.

Do you live in constant fear? Are you overwhelmed by grief? Do you find yourself feeling sad, withdrawn, irritable, and lonely? Are you struggling to communicate with your teen? Do you often wonder why they behave in certain ways? If so, I would like to help. We all would like to think we are strong enough to overcome these issues on our own, but there comes a time when we need to reach out for additional help. I specialize in treating trauma (specifically sexually abuse), mood disorders, and grief. I also have worked extensively with teens and their families, so I know the problems that are unique to teens.

In my experience working with both the teen and the parent individually brings the most improvement in the relationship and reduction in the teen's difficulties.
If you are seeking therapy for your teen - you've come to the right place. But first I want to check in with you, the parent. Are you feeling unsure about how to best help your teen? Are you noticing worrisome moods/behaviors but feel unsure how to best support them? Is you high achieving teen struggling under the pressures around balancing academic achievement, extracurricular activities and friend/family relationships? It's not uncommon for teens to experience mood dysregulation, episodes of anxiety, depression, disordered eating or social difficulties. If your teen is struggling, therapy can make all the difference.

As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and supervisor with a decade of experience in private and social service settings, I work closely with children and adolescent youth who've had physical or emotional trauma.
We all want the best for our children: to help them grow and teach them the necessary skills to succeed in life. When we communicate with open ears and conscious hearts, this allows for healthy relationships to build. Effective therapy utilized this approach of open communication in order to foster the growth and development of youth. I strive to help every child feel that they have control over their lives, and offer the necessary skills to be happy, healthy, and to make their own positive decisions.

I will walk alongside you and your adolescent to help lift heavy weights from your shoulders, find hope, and discover a new vision for your future.
As the parent of a struggling child or teen, you may find yourself wondering what you can do to help them feel better. Adolescents are facing unique challenges that can feel overwhelming like social media, bullying, self-esteem issues, anxiety and depression. Not to mention some of the difficulties you may have faced as a family, like adoption, divorce, death of a loved one, or a traumatic event. You can see that your child is struggling, but they won’t even talk to you or they don’t have the language to communicate their big feelings to you. How do you help your child when you are not sure where to start? Well I am here to help.

You can have an amazing life; the life you've always wanted. As an expert in counseling surrounding death and dying, I have discovered that the issues encountered due to grief and loss are the same with all life transitions. This is even true for those transitions that are positives in our lives. This concept is what drives my approach to assisting you through life's transitions with ease and comfort. This will give you the opportunity to create a life of peace, love and joy. I look forward to being a part of your journey

Spouses- I'm happy to talk with your partner about couples therapy to make it less scary, help them feel heard, and help them get on board. Life can be painful. Therapy doesn't have to be. Many people see therapy as one-sided, with little opportunity for interaction or getting to experience each other as real people. I can promise you that I am as real as it gets! I want to help you achieve the solutions and life changes you are looking for while enjoying the process as much as possible. Calling a therapist can be intimidating, but I hope you will take a moment (and maybe a deep breath) to call and see how I can help.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
