Do you feel stuck and worried you may not be able to find help? Maybe you have a habit or behavior you want to stop but can't seem to make lasting progress. Perhaps you're unhappy, anxious, exhausted, or feel like you don't know if you will ever get better. By the time most folks seek therapy, they have been stressed or hurting for a long time. Finding someone you can work with, who gets you, is often a very difficult process. ◇I love working with toddlers, kids, couples, & families too! We can do nature walks or meet inside. Attuning to BIPOC experiences, and special focus on LGBTQIA+ community are important to my work & life.

My practice philosophy is that all of my patients deserve the best care possible, and I strive to provide that quality of care. I respect each person's individuality, his/her strengths and life accomplishments which must not be obscured by the often presenting pain, distress and possible disability.

Therapy can be one of the most challenging experiences for individuals and families; you sit in a room and begin sharing thoughts and feelings with a person you don’t know. Shame, regret, relationship issues are some of the many reasons people experience stress in their lives. At times, this stress can become so overwhelming it starts to impair our daily lives. For others, it easy to mask those issues around family, peers and/or coworkers; but when we are alone those obstacles are still with us. Whether this is your first-time trying therapy or you have seen multiple professionals, I'm here to embark on this journey with you.

With 22 years of experience of working with family upheaval, foster care and physical and sexual abuse, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and domestic violence, I enjoy being present for those working on the above issues. Issues of loss and grief, parenting skills or a new life direction. In recent years, I have come to love working with families and siblings of children diagnosed with Autism. Many times these family members are left with no support in the day in and day out living with a child or sibling with Autism. Chronic pain is also a major interest of mine.

Finding yourself or a loved one in a place of internal chaos can feel unmanageable. When you feel overwhelmed in your mind, body, & emotions it can leave you in a dysregulated space. Struggling with difficult relationships either within yourself or with others can have part of you falling back into habitual behaviors. Sometimes you try to avoid your thoughts and feelings as a way to disconnect from internal struggles. You want to feel happy with yourself, relationships, and life so desperately but things seem to fall short. Unfortunately, we all experience events or situations in our lives that can leave us confused, hurt & lost.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Therapists
How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?
Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioral therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behavior therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.
Are there specific medications for dissociation?
There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom—which may include antipsychotics like aripiprazole, antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines.
How often and how long are therapy sessions?
Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
