It takes a great deal of courage to admit that you’re facing difficulties, and even greater to take the steps to do something about it. Therapy, takes a great deal of commitment, honesty, and determination to find resolve and peace. Psychotherapy, talk therapy, is not always easy. Some sessions you will leave feeling positive, and other's Not so much. This is part of the process, and it's necessary. Know that you are not going through this alone. I view each working relationship as a partnership working together to find the best resolve for you. I am non-judgmental, accepting, and confidential PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE

So much of our happiness boils down to the relationships in our lives; it brings us our greatest joys or our most painful sorrows. Life transitions, both developmental (adolescence, young adults, mid-life) and experiential (cohabitating, marriage, parenting, divorce) can cause unexpected emotional and relational challenges and getting support through these transitions can be hugely beneficial. We all suffer from moments of shame, sadness, loss, confusion, anxiety, insecurity, and fear as we try to move through these developmental stages and life transitions, but you don't have to do it alone.

I provide therapy to children, adolescents and adults, in an integrated and culturally sensitive fashion, utilizing a combination of strategies gathered from various psychological orientations, combined with teachings of Eastern schools of thought.
Buddha's quote "The mind is everything. What you think you become", has always been at the center of my beliefs, both personally and professionally. Therefore, I view therapy as a tool that enables us to transcend beyond our previously adopted and perhaps less effective ways of coping with life's challenges, and begin to relearn new ways of dealing with challenges as they arise. This will in turn open up many new windows to self-awareness, ultimately bringing about personal growth and satisfaction both internally and within the context of our relationships, allowing us to live happier more fulfilled lives.

My therapeutic approach is individualized to meet each client’s needs while being culturally sensitive.
Making the choice to start therapy can be intimidating, but taking the steps to care for yourself and your mental health shows that you are ready for some change. In order for this change to develop, I place immense value on the importance of the therapeutic relationship and provide a safe space for clients to feel understood, challenged and empowered without feeling judged. I want all of my clients to feel as though therapy is a safe place to vent, laugh, cry, gain insight, and grow as in individual.

My goal as a licensed psychologist is to help individuals, couples, families, and groups find harmony between what they "think," how they "feel," and what they "do" as they work through multiple life challenges and demands. Since its beginning, the vision of my practice has focused on providing culturally-sensitive mental health services to diverse populations exhibiting a full range of difficulties and psychological disorders. This vision is launched from a cognitive-behavioral framework. My practice reflects the insight offered by Albert Einstein: "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." Hence, for change to happen, "thinking matters."

I am LGBTQIA+ affirmative and culturally sensitive.
As a modern woman, you have so many things on your plate! It can be challenging to balance both your work and relationships. You may be fed up with recurring anxiety or stress, feeling overwhelmed or exhausted, or like there is no way you can give one more piece of yourself to anyone. Your personal relationships may be floundering. You may not be sure where to start, but that is ok. You’re ready to prioritize yourself and get some support. You’re ready for your relationships to thrive. Most of all, you’re ready to reconnect with yourself and create a life and lifestyle that is pleasurable and sustainable.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
