Whether this is your first time seeking therapy or a continuation of your therapy journey, I want to acknowledge the time you are taking to support yourself by seeking change. I think of therapy as a commitment to making space for things that often don’t get enough space in everyday life— space settle into oneself, to take pause, to be witnessed, to be with experiences and support awareness as it emerges. I believe that awareness leads to choice, and that in therapy we can co-create a space to explore your experiences, building greater awareness of needs, boundaries, and patterns of experience.

When provided well, therapy becomes one of the most valuable investments of your life, because it provides the foundation for creating a more peaceful and fulfilling existence. I believe we all have an innate ability to live a life of purpose. I am simply a guide to support you in arriving there. You will learn to communicate effectively and create a balanced life through shifting your engrained responses related to your experiences of trauma, relationships and biological aspects.

I became a therapist after many years of diving into my own healing process and studying various healing modalities. I am a holistic therapist, meaning I attend to all aspects of wellbeing: emotional, mental, and physical as well as spiritual, cultural, and in the context of community and social systems. I treat ailments including trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and relationship issues for individuals, couples, and families. Clients who benefit from my approach are those seeking a partner in growth and self-exploration, and who are ready to put new ways of thinking and being into practice in daily life.

Our lives here on earth are a creative experience! At times, we need a place to rest and tend to our inner world. I view the therapeutic process as a brave space to access parts of ourselves that we want to grow and transform. My goal in working with you is to provide a supportive environment that will cultivate an increased awareness of your needs, self-compassion and understanding of who you are becoming.

I believe we all carry within us everything we need to heal. There are also times in our lives when we need extra support to access inner resources, healing and growth. As your therapist, we will explore together ways that old habits, patterns and history limit the life you want to be living. Whether you are stressed, anxious or overwhelmed, facing big life transitions, worried about your teen, or longing for more meaning and connection in your relationships, you are not alone in your struggle. It is a courageous act to get support and I honor your unique life journey.

Humans are social animals - by nature we need to feel connected ("in relationship"). Life today is SO stressful! If we feel connected we can manage our stressful lives. If we don't feel connected then it doesn't matter what else is happening - life won't feel very satisfying. Through the therapeutic process you and I will work on improving your relationships with yourself and others, which can help you feel more safe and secure, and that your life is more meaningful and satisfying. When your relationships are better, you have more focus and energy for life!

This human journey is dynamic and asks so much of us at times. Many of us find ourselves struggling internally or in our relationships and it is these moments that I am here for you. Like most of us, I imagine you want freedom from inner oppressive paradigms, an ability to cultivate and utilize resources that help you navigate swift currents or unknown terrain, and perhaps above all to be deeply understood.

It is easy to feel stuck, confused, or overwhelmed, when dealing with the many challenges that life throws at you. Often there is not a quick and easy solution when dealing with life's more complex challenges, however having a supportive ally throughout the twists and turns can make all the difference. I am committed to supporting people who have experienced oppression, trauma, or other difficult experiences. Figuring out how to live one's life with a sense of meaning, satisfaction, and authenticity can be difficult, and I am here to support you on that journey.

I enter the therapeutic space with curiosity, compassion, and non-judgment, and without preconceived notions of who you are or what you would like to gain from therapy. I practice cultural humility and open-mindedness, and truly believe that every individual is unique and holds authority over their own identity and story. I welcome ALL people to my practice. My goal is to build a safe space with you that allows me to meet you where you are, and at the same time challenge you to take hold of opportunities for growth when you are ready.

The poet, Mary Oliver, asks: "Tell me, what is it that you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" I am so honored to walk with my clients in a skill-based approach as we explore these kinds of questions and access that deeper wisdom available to us all. The human psyche is such a magnificent entity--your search for an ultimately satisfying life deserves to be witnessed and supported as you move through it! I believe that as you recognize patterns which may be limiting your life and release them, you will find the source of true empowerment as well as our interconnectedness with it.

Transgender Therapists
As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.
What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.
How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
