My practice currently focuses primarily on helping couples and individuals who seek support and guidance with relationship issues as well as identifying and treating any symptoms of anxiety or depression that commonly go along with challenging relationship dynamics or other life stressors.
Neuroscience is showing us what we have known instinctually forever; that it is through nurturing relationships that healing and human growth occurs. If we have been wounded in relationship or have unresolved trauma from the past, our fear and reactivity can prevent us from seeking and maintaining nurturing and safe connections with self and others. I am a licensed therapist in CA and WI and work online with residents of those two states only. My practice is fee for service only.

I work with individuals (adults and adolescents), couples, and families.
Whether this is your first time seeking therapy or a continuation of your therapy journey, I want to acknowledge the time you are taking to support yourself by seeking change. I think of therapy as a commitment to making space for things that often don’t get enough space in everyday life— space settle into oneself, to take pause, to be witnessed, to be with experiences and support awareness as it emerges. I believe that awareness leads to choice, and that in therapy we can co-create a space to explore your experiences, building greater awareness of needs, boundaries, and patterns of experience.

I am a Level 2 PACT Clinician with Stan Tatkin, author of "Wired for Love" in his Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy.
Hi I’m Chaela, owner of Connecting Couples Therapy. I work with couples and individuals in various degrees of relationship distress and I help them develop a more secure attachment style. I love helping clients find real ways of connecting more deeply and authentically in order to live a more fulfilling and satisfying life. During times of stress, unmet needs can bring out the worst in a person. I help couples to recognize the root of relational insecurity and to develop security both internally and interpersonally. I also work with couples on the brink of or in the process of divorce to create secure coparenting practices.

I would love to support you in actualizing your goals, whether that be in individual or couples therapy.
I support couples and individuals seeking to make a change in their life. I hold value in the belief that everyone has their own internal strength to solve their issues and that sometimes it takes a different perspective to help guide you towards taking those steps to improving your quality of life. I work with a variety of conflicts that come up in relationships from infidelity to premarital counseling.

My specialties include trauma, relationship issues and self-esteem issues.
For me, it is vital that you feel heard and supported all times, without judgment. Together, we will strategize how to best cope with daily stressors effectively and easily. I can help you leave the past behind through self-forgiveness and by creating a much more positive present, and thus, future. Often, we talk to ourselves in very negative ways and this determines our reactions and limitations, as well as our worldview. I will help you radically improve your self-esteem and take on each day's challenges feeling strong and at peace with yourself. I also specialize in trauma. My way of treating it is effective and painless.

I have worked in a variety of populations including toddlers and children, adolescents, adults, couples, and parents in their efforts to reclaim their joy, peace, and passion in life.
My work as a therapist revolves around creating a relationship that is safe enough to encourage honest reflection and focused enough to encourage challenge and change. Research continues to show that the most important factor in successful therapy is a good connection between the therapist and client. My passion is to establish a strong, safe alliance with you and to be your companion in finding and activating your innate wisdom and resilience. I will encourage an honest exploration of your thoughts, feelings, and passions.

My primary specialties are attachment-based therapy, which addresses how the interpersonal skills we learned as children are contributing to our current situations, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which highlights the unmet needs that tend to cause rifts and helps to reestablish the emotional connection in partner relationships.
Starting therapy is a big step - trusting a complete stranger with your vulnerabilities, hopes, and anxieties is no small ask. With that in mind, I aim to meet my clients where they're at in order to effect change in a sustainable way. I work with couples and individuals to unpack the origins of their behavioral and cognitive patterns and understand how those are impacting their current relationships and daily lives.

I specialize in working with couples, teenagers, and individual adults.
As an uncritical witness to my clients’ lives, I offer the necessary support, reflection and guidance for clients to access the parts within themselves that are needed for change. Having someone truly witness your life can mean the difference between just feeling bogged down and stuck, and actually experiencing growth and seeing change take place in your life. I have been providing psychotherapy to teens, adults, couples and families for 25 years, and in private practice for the last 15 years. And, in that time, I have seen the collaboration between therapist and client create remarkable change.

I believe how we perceive and response to daily interactions effects the relationship with ourselves and others. These moments, whether you are experiencing joy or discomfort are opportunities for personal growth; practicing kindness and compassion to all. I assist clients with learning and practicing mindfulness; paying attention to the present moment, enabling them to see clearly what is needed in the moment to make wise choices. These choices and actions will help them overcome the obstacles keeping them from the life they seek.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
