The experiences you have in your work with me, and our understanding those experiences together, will be an important part of our building your path away from eating disorders, anxiety, and depression - and toward your best self.
I know what it's like to have negative thoughts and feelings about food interfere with your life. I'm familiar with what it's like to feel you can't breathe freely in your own body. I can help you build compassion and understanding for yourself as you learn more about why food or body image has become problematic for you. I will walk with you as you explore new ways to take care of yourself that better suit you and the life you want. It is absolutely possible to reconnect to the nourishing and joyful parts of eating, and to feel you can breathe freely in your body.

For the past ten years, I have worked as a therapist and clinical director at the residential level of care helping individuals who suffer from eating disorders and related issues like anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, substance use, relationship issues, and a lack of self-knowing/self-worth.
As human beings, we are all on the same journey of self-understanding, self-compassion, self-growth and the belief in our self-worth. What I have seen happen time after time is that people get stuck in the lack of self-compassion and then struggle to move forward from there. This leaves them with more insecurities, anxiety, and depression that drive other unhealthy behavior use. People so often feel disconnected from their inner strengths. My goal is to help clients reconnect with their internal resources so they can move past the doubt and judgement and take that next step towards self-compassion and a better sense of self-worth.

Are you tired of constant dieting, hating or judging your body, are you using food and/or exercise to deal with stress? I love helping people with emotional eating, non-effective dieting cycles, bad body image, over exercise problems, anorexia, bulimia, and other eating disorders.
You've known that some issues have been always holding you back from reaching your full potential in life, career, and relationships. You realize that these unresolved and unattended issues do not serve your life, and keep sabotaging your happiness on different levels... Perhaps, you even tried working through some of them on your own, but deep down you know you need some external help and guidance to heal from them. You would like to reach some peace, let go of pain, learn how to accept and love yourself better, learn some real tools and skills to be more resilient, feel strong and confident, and be able to enjoy life.

I have guest spoken on eating disorders throughout my career and have consulted at residential treatment centers to assist clients with body image concerns.
Does anxiety keep you awake at night? Do you worry about what you should or shouldn't eat? Do you feel guilty over your food choices and feel the need to compensate by exercise, restriction or purging? Do you like the person you see in the mirror? Together we will explore your need to focus on food choices, calories, exercise and weight. There are many reasons that contribute to your emotional struggle that have nothing to do with food or how you look in the mirror. I will help you to discover the root of your anxiety and emotional pain so that you can learn to love and accept yourself as worthwhile and perfectly imperfect.

My areas of treatment include anxiety, depression, prenatal/postnatal, relationship issues, sexual & physical abuse, eating disorders, substance abuse, other addictions and those who are coping with a loved one with such areas of concern.
My role as a therapist is not about helping others. It is about giving guidance and focusing on self-empowerment to my clients so they can have the tools to assist themselves. Prior to private practice, I worked at treatment facilities for both substance abuse and eating disorders, worked with victims of crimes (domestic violence and sexual abuse), and a suicide hotline.

I have over 10 years of experience treating eating disorders.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is a core part of engaging in healthy life changes. Change is very difficult for most people and sometimes all it takes is to talk about your struggles and have someone to listen and try to understand. My belief is that the therapy relationship can help the healing process no matter what it is you are dealing with. The first step towards having a happy life is a healthy mind.

Eating Disorders Therapists
What happens in therapy for eating disorders?
In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.
What therapy types help with eating disorders?
Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.
What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?
The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.
What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?
Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.
How long does therapy last for eating disorders?
Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
