Do you feel stressed out, anxious or depressed? Children have the same emotions like us but they usually don't know how to talk about it or seek help on their own. However, the way they behave at home or school can be the clue for us. If you sense they are having some problems and they are struggling to cope with, it might be best to have them talk to someone with experience in getting children to communicate about what's affecting them.

As queer, transgender, Asian American, and neurodivergent, my therapeutic stance combines my professional and personal experiences with what I learn from you so we may co-create the best approach. Allow me to walk with you on your path, and I will lend guidance and perspective without ever imposing my will over yours. Let’s work together to find the next steps to whatever you bring, the middle path between the burdens and the joys. This can be more somatic-leaning, philosophically-inclined, skills-based, or any combination thereof.

We use to have hard times whenever faced by difficulties that challenge our ego. Most of the time, we tend to avoid coping with these challenges, or we do deal with them in destructive ways, mainly because of not having learned more assertive functional ways to take care of ourselves, relationships and circumstances in life. My approach is focused on promoting your insight about why you think, feel and react the ways you do, supporting you to take advantage of your own potentials, improve skills and guiding you on taking good care of your core needs and expectations.

You have been living through a stressful and exhausting time. A global pandemic is constantly changing your relationships and the way you live your life. You have also been exposed to an unprecedented amount of collective trauma both within your communities, and on a larger global scale. You're finding it harder to get a good night's rest, and you struggle to find meaning in a world that seems overwhelmingly painful to exist in. You want things to be different, but you don't know how.

Are you new to therapy and looking to understand and manage your anxiety and stress, or have you been in therapy but need to uncover the last missing pieces to take your progress to the next level? My clients often struggle with choice paralysis (decision making, completing tasks), career progress (quitting, promotions, career changes), next steps in relationships (marriage, breakup, family planning), people pleasing (difficulty saying no, avoiding conflict), and feeling apathetic/dissatisfied with life. I also work with couples integrating CBT and behavioral couples therapy to establish new problem-solving and communication skills.

In my mind, the ideal psychologist is validating, transparent, practical, and experienced. As both a board certified CBT and DBT therapist, I teach tangible tools to get "unstuck" based on scientific research within a nonjudgmental, warm, environment. My hope is to help you move toward the life you want and create some distance from the thoughts and behaviors that might get in your way. My goal isn't only to help you feel better, but to holistically live better. I really enjoy working with college and graduate students, people pursuing life changes (such as career, relationship), and individuals facing medical problems.

I am currently accepting both therapy and assessment patients. I work with children, adolescents, and adults using open-ended guidance and play to understanding their history so that change can come from a more deeply rooted place. I use this perspective to address issues of depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism, trauma, relationship issues, and family dynamics. I believe that my clients are their own experts with knowledge about their emotions and body, even if it is not yet uncovered. We will work on uncovering that together while exploring the influences of diversity factors that create the spectrum of human experiences.

As a trauma-informed systemic therapist, I take a collaborative and humanistic approach as I provide psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families. To better understand an individual's worldview, meeting them where they are, understanding their perspectives, and presenting issues that have brought them to seek therapy is vital. Connecting with people through a humanistic approach allows us to comprehend one another through fundamental connections we share, such as emotions and sensations. Through collaboration and authenticity, I utilize myself as a tool through dynamic conversations and applying skills to encourage change.

Being human is messy and hard, and all too often, you can feel alone in facing your suffering. You feel isolated, cut off, like nobody else gets what you're going through–whether that be grief, depression, systemic oppression, trauma, or any other human affliction. While the original experiences were hard, your sense of aloneness makes them worse; they stick with you and shape the way you interact with the world, like tightly-wound knots that never get a chance to loosen.

Has your relationship flatlined? Do you often wonder, “When did the thrill vanish?” or “Why is World War 3 happening in my living room?” Is your partner dismissive, cold, or indifferent? Maybe intimacy has become a distant memory. Is sex even still on the table? Perhaps you’re terrified that the best has come and gone. The fixes you’ve tried have turned into a cycle of rejection, resentment, and amplified hurt. You’ve probably started seeing or looking for the spark from someone else.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
