"Hello! ¡Hola! My name is Biridiana but everyone calls me Biri (Beedee). My pronouns are She, Her, Hers, and Ella. I’m a California Native of Mexican heritage who earned a master's degree in clinical psychology from Mount Saint Mary’s University, Los Angeles and completed a certificate program in counseling Spanish-Speaking clients. I recognize the stigma often associated with mental health, especially within communities of color. I aim to provide a safe space to express yourself while providing therapy services that are culturally competent, empathic and honor you as an individual.

Kim is an integrated, relationship-based LGBTQIA+ affirming and neurodiversity Affirming Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in treatment of anxiety and OCD-spectrum with kids, teens and adults and parenting kids with anxious emotions (SPACE and SPACE-FTL) as well as parents navigating systems around supporting a neurodiverse child.
One's experience with fear, stress, sadness or uncomfortable feelings in general can have major impacts on how we view ourselves and the world. However, when provided with therapeutic guidance, collaboration, skills training, education and support, I have learned that one can cultivate courage, growth and resilience that allows them to reengage in life in meaningful ways. The process of therapy is a collaborative one and I believe that the relationship we develop through our work together should aid in instilling hope and increasing motivation to tackle whatever challenges you face.

Life is messy. Relationships are hard. Pandemics are lonely. And parenting...? Don’t even get me started! If you're feeling like societal expectations are consistently setting you up for failure, I get it... and I assure you that you are not alone. If you've gotten this far in my profile, I imagine it's because you have a different story you'd rather be telling yourself right now — one where you are thriving and not merely surviving. If this resonates, give me a call. I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation so we can determine if my therapeutic style is a good fit for your current needs.

I work collaboratively in a safe, non-judgmental environment with life transitions, personal growth, divorce, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationships and parenting (straight, gay and single).
Are you struggling in your relationships or in other areas of your life? Are you depressed or anxious and don't understand why? In therapy we can focus on getting relief from your symptoms while exploring the underlying causes ultimately leading to meaningful changes. Behavior patterns formed in the past do not need to dictate the quality of your life in the present. Identifying these patterns in a highly interactive therapeutic relationship can lead you to a path of improved relationships and enhanced wellbeing.

I was the staff addictions specialist at a New York hospital and am an alum of the Maple Counseling Center where I taught "parenting adolescents" classes.
Our world's been shaken up in ways we've never imagined. We're understandably anxious, trying to cope. Jobs, family, illness. How do we hold it together? Are you looking for someone to talk to who can walk through this labyrinth with you? I specialize in trauma, perhaps I can help. You may be having problems with your partner, kids or parents-- most significantly with yourself. If your pain is manifesting as panic attacks or addictions, if there's grief or you're in parent/child conflicts at any age, therapy may help. I work with individuals and couples to enhance communication, creativity and a core sense of self.

Relationships are one of the most meaningful and rewarding elements of our lives. Whether it’s a relationship with a spouse, partner, friends, a parent or child, a relationship to work or money, or the relationship you have with yourself-- relationships affect us every minute of every day. But, the ability to cultivate them into healthy and loving creations is not innate. Most of us have experienced the pain that comes when relationships are toxic and unfulfilled. This pain comes in many forms: anxiety, sadness, guilt or shame, low self-esteem, loneliness, financial problems, addiction, etc. But, it doesn’t have to be that way.

I have experience working with vast cultures, age-groups, and family histories, with specialized trainings in trauma, grief, relationship concerns, attachment, play therapy, and parenting.
Sometimes, our relationship to others, and ourselves, has lost its footing. We may even find ourselves feeling disconnected and overwhelmed by difficult emotions. Though we often push through life’s challenges alone, the truth is, we don’t have to. In our time together, I hope to collaborate with you in identifying the patterns, thoughts, and feelings that may be blocking you from a happy relationship to yourself and others, even if it feels beyond words at this time. I believe an environment of warmth, curiosity, and creativity can help us heal in ways we may have never thought possible.

The story of our growth is often a story of change — in the layered identities we inhabit, the relationships that anchor us, and the responsibilities we are called to step into. Moving through life changes like separating from a partner, shifting careers, becoming a parent, or losing a loved one can make us feel unmoored and overwhelmed, stranded someplace between who we once were and who we are becoming. I work with my clients to explore the unique complexities, challenges, and opportunities for empowerment that lay inside these vulnerable, vital periods of transition.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
