I work from an emotionally focused perspective, utilizing Narrative and Psychodynamic theoretical approaches tailored to meet each client's needs.
Living with guilt, worry, and irritability can be exhausting. A sense of overwhelm that feels inescapable. Perhaps you feel disconnected from yourself and those around you, and you aren't sure why. You are tired of doing it all for everyone, all of the time, and making it look easy. Juggling relationships, a job, a family, and much more can be challenging. I can support and guide your journey toward a more calm and peaceful inner world. My ideal client is someone who comes to therapy with an open mind and a willingness to explore and work through their struggles.

More recently, she has become increasingly invested in modalities such as ACT and EFT.
Native to Los Angeles, Amanda was captivated from a young age by the stark discrepancies in mental health services available to marginalized communities compared to the surrounding populations living only just next door. Prolonged exposure further lead her awareness of a growing divide for which there seemed no clear solution. Frustrated by a lack of meaningful social impact, Amanda was driven to commit her life to seeking clinical solutions to broad societal issues.

I have training in Emotionally-Focused couples therapy (EFT) & practice with a psychodynamic framework and implement a relational approach as we dive into understanding where symptoms stem from and how to integrate different parts of ourselves.
Change is hard, especially when we feel stuck in old patterns, challenging relationships or unsatisfying careers . It can feel like a really lonely place to be. But you don't have to experience this alone. Therapy can help you make the changes you've been struggling to make on your own. We will explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors from the past and present, to understand the patterns that may be making you feel stuck on a loop. We will work to gain awareness and insight into barriers that may be standing in your way and preventing you from achieving your goals, while also identifying your strengths and how to use them.

I work from a psychodynamic perspective, with additional specialized training in EMDR, Grief Counseling, and EFT.
I believe that our journeys, through life's experiences and struggles, make us who we are. My own life's journey has led me to my career as a psychotherapist, which allows me the opportunity, honor, and privilege, to work together with my clients to realize their own strengths, limitations, and to identify and achieve their goals. I believe this can take place, within a strong therapeutic relationship, built on non-judgment, trust, safety, and compassion.

I appreciate the uniqueness of everyone's story, which is why I utilize a combination of modalities, from trauma work, CBT, ACT, EFT and Attachment-Based therapy.
Life transitions and change often bring up feelings of uncertainty and worry. Although, these transitions are often expected or even decided by us, it can cause an overwhelming sense of doubt and sometimes feelings of grief. I work with clients who are experiencing challenges with life transitions, like motherhood, coming in or out of a relationship, and grief and loss. My approach is to make meaning of your losses and transitions, support you through your experience and identify strategies to help you feel grounded, connected and seen.

I am here to help you discover alternative ways of existing that feel in alignment to your true Self, whether this looks like improving your relationships, increasing intimacy, developing better communication skills, or setting healthy boundaries. You are not alone in this process. Together, we can identify how to use your uniqueness and strengths to achieve your goals.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
