Welcome to my Psychology Today page and thank you for your interest. Most of us need help at some point in our lives. There's no need to struggle alone,I can help. My sessions take advantage of the fact that our brains are plastic and can change patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. How do I know this? For twenty years I have helped clients alleviate depression, grief, anxiety and stress, worked through relationship problems, and identified and stopped self-destructive patterns and situations that disrupt daily life.

I imagine you’re in pain right now. You’re feeling alone, anxious, unhappy, and overwhelmed. Your relationships just don’t feel like they once did, you often feel like you don’t belong at work or with your friends. You just don’t know what to do to feel better. We’ve all been through dark periods in our lives, but the question is how do we dig ourselves out? Change is scary and difficult, but with my help it’s possible.

We often find ourselves in a place in our lives where we face challenges or uncertainty, making it hard to move on or cope with stressors. Perhaps it is a difficult job, relationship turmoil, loss of a loved one, or another major life transition. Perhaps you are feeling depressed, anxious, angry, or feeling stuck and unable to find clarity or move forward. This can negatively impact our overall well-being and happiness. Psychotherapy can provide a haven to explore your circumstances and allow for greater insight and progress to move forward with a clearer headspace and intention.

Since 2012, I’ve worked as a licensed clinical psychologist supporting adults of all ages and backgrounds in transforming self-limiting beliefs, recalibrating their lives, and nurturing practices that strengthen mind, body, and spirit. My experience in VA hospitals and medical centers has deepened my understanding of the layered complexities many clients face, including chronic health conditions, burnout, trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, low self-worth and existential distress. My approach honors all aspects of a person, and as such healing goes beyond mere symptom management to restoring wholeness and renewing purpose.

I am a solution-oriented, trauma-focused therapist, with a strong background in mindfulness-based treatment of addiction, depression, anxiety, and other symptoms that often result from unresolved complex trauma.
I help people navigate the big choices in life, confront issues like depression and anxiety, and face down bigger problems like addiction or unresolved trauma. Maybe you sense something isn’t quite right — your job, your marriage, your personal relationships and want to get “back on track.” Together we can face difficult choices, move through the stages of change, and help you recover a sense of personal integrity. I work with couples, individuals, and sometimes families to improve communication, explore values, and address underlying issues which may be a source of conflict.

I'm a mindfulness-based therapist specializing in DBT, CBT, and ACT with focused interest in the treatment of Borderline Personality, anxiety, and emotion regulation, especially within the LGBTQ+ community.
If you’re anything like me or my clients, you’re very much aware that your overwhelming emotions and thoughts keep coming, even though it seems like you’ve done everything you can to stop them. Maybe you’re stressed and can’t relax, believing that you have to do everything by yourself...but then you’re hard on yourself for having needs and feelings! You likely know you don't want to lose your temper so easily or be controlled by your emotions, and you know that you want more from your life than how it is now. What you likely don’t know is how to make this vision of a life worth living a reality. You're certainly not alone!

I enjoy working with clients who are looking to explore new ways to understand themselves, their relationships, and the reasons for their distress. I think that most of our depression, anxiety, or trauma responses come from a place of protectiveness and if we can learn to have empathy for ourselves in these reactions, we can learn to choose when to double-down and when to let go.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
