I focus on building trusted relationships with clients and establishing a space where they can be seen, heard and known. I leverage cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to repair faulty beliefs, attachment theory to resolve childhood wounds, Jungian psychology which emphasizes the unconscious, existential therapy to define purpose, a strengths-based approach that helps clients access inner resources to solve complex challenges and family systems models in couples therapy. I work with people of all faith/non-faith backgrounds but have a unique ability to integrate theology/spirituality with psychology to find hope and resolution.

I am influenced by Existential therapy, Strength based therapies, & the Enneagram.
Be gentle, you are doing the best you can. If you could snap your fingers and stop the anxious thoughts and worries you would, right? I understand the fear of being trapped in your negative experiences and how helpless that can feel without loving support. The truth is life is as challenging as it is remarkable and respecting how trauma, stress, neglect, or illness are showing up in your body and experience is paramount to healing. Trauma can show up as patterns of protection that keep us stuck in feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, hopelessness, and fear. And keep us from enjoying secure and loving relationships with others.

Have you ever thought over the different moments and experiences in your life and wondered “How has this impacted who I am?” Or maybe you’re wrestling with the big existential questions of life: “Who am I?” “What brings me purpose and fulfillment?” “How do I deal with the disappointments of my life and things that are out of my control?” If so, you’re not alone. What all of the above have in common is a deep desire to understand. That desire may be to better understand your life story and who you are, how to deal with life, how to move forward. All of this can be explored in therapy.

I am a clinical psychologist based in Walnut Creek, CA. My graduate and postgraduate training included most major approaches to psychotherapy. When I begin psychotherapy with someone, my intent is to work in partnership with you. My style is one of active collaboration. Only with both of us involved, sharing our thoughts and ideas, can a safe and effective working environment develop. Change isn't easy. If it was, you might not be thinking about therapy.

Motherhood can bring levels of joy you never thought possible. It can also be overwhelming, lonely, or overstimulating. Living in the ups and downs seems to be a daily, even momentary, experience. Some of the emotions and thoughts you are navigating during pregnancy and postpartum were not in the books or articles about what to expect during this time. Your identity is shifting from who you once were to who you are now becoming. Every mama could use support while navigating this transformative and transitional season.

How do we break the spell of trauma? Shame, internalized gaslighting, trust issues, addictions and all the rest. How do we break free? The funny answer is not by fighting them as enemies. But by befriending them. Once we befriend them, they lose their power over us. But how do we befriend an enemy that lives in our Unconscious? Dreams, art, play, and imagination are all natives of this realm. so they are perfect guides through our underworld of rich personal symbolism to befriend shadow elements and integrate repressed capacities, replenishing vitality. Fun breaks the spell.

As a practitioner, I am passionate about helping individuals cultivate greater awareness of their emotional, physical, and spiritual experiences. My work helps people understand the ways in which the unconscious shapes their present day reality. Sometimes, this involves a compassionate inquiry into a a person’s family of origin, relational dynamics, trauma, and habituated beliefs. I am committed to helping my clients live purposefully, joyfully, and with greater awareness and self-acceptance.

Consider this for a moment: how many times per day do you hear yourself say, "a part of me thinks/feels this, but another part of me thinks/feels that"? Indeed, we all consist of "parts" - aspects of ourselves that formed in response to life experiences, beliefs, and felt emotions. But here's the twist: the parts we resist and exile in ourselves have a way of resurfacing and often manifest as undesirable behaviors with unwanted outcomes. In other words, these parts react automatically to situations and often get us in trouble. For this reason, we stay stuck, and parts of ourselves remain unfulfilled and unattended.

Are you feeling caught between contradictory feelings of hope and despair? Finding a space where we can feel deeply understood is important to developing a secure sense of self. Psychotherapy offers a reflective space to explore the wordless thoughts, the nameless pain or the inner conflicts that may inhibit us. Through therapy a greater sense of integrity and meaning in life is possible. When we respond with genuine understanding and acceptance, hope may be restored and joy found. I listen to clients with openness and intuition. I encourage those I work with to begin to trust their own inner resources and find their own resilience.

Sometimes our relationships with others, or ourselves, get stuck. We may have lost direction, purpose, or meaning, and we become unsure of who we are or who we are in our relationships with other people. We may feel alone, sad, or scared. Some of us become overwhelmed by naming these emotions. Some of us may choose to isolate ourselves and think we must navigate this life alone. In these moments, we are invited to pay attention; when we do, we begin healing. Therapy can be a gift, inviting you to look inward and grow.

Existential Therapists

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
