I draw upon humanistic, existential, and psychodynamic approaches to psychotherapy to identify what you want in life that you have been unable to obtain.
You may have experienced a disruption in your life causing unmanageable discomfort or perhaps you are seeking enjoyment and life satisfaction that has been missing for some time. While pain is an inevitable part of existence, suffering does not have to be. My role is to provide a nonjudgmental space to work through what challenges you. Anxiety and depression, relational or end of relationship issues, interpersonal conflict, substance use, teenage difficulties, social anxiety, lack of meaning or purpose, are my areas of most experience.

I have a training background in psychodynamic therapy, but I also love the client-centered nature of humanistic therapy.
Hello! My name is Tess Norton and I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist. I use a psychodynamic, client-centered approach with my clients. I help young adults better handle life’s stressors, keep perfectionism in check, and grow their self-esteem. I enjoy working with young adults who are navigating their own unique paths in life. I am most comfortable working with anxiety, whether it stems from familial stress or societal pressures. I am especially passionate about serving the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. I also enjoy working with immigrants and children of immigrants.

I can’t lie about it, sometimes therapy hurts. Growing pains are real, and often what we need in order to move forward is the very thing we find hardest to do. The purpose of therapy isn’t always to feel better, it is to feel more.

For most of us, life can be hard and difficult to navigate. Life stressors can make you feel defeated and unable to be present. It’s important to talk about tough topics. People are hesitant to be honest and vulnerable with their feelings and thoughts for fear of judgment when the reality is that we all are human and share similar negative thoughts and experiences. The more we are able to talk about it, the more we understand and can focus on supporting each other. We also experience loss, hopelessness, moments of feeling overwhelmed or lost. Let’s get better together where you feel safe and respected to do so. You deserve wellness!

My clients are individuals who often carry with them unresolved feelings from either their past or present challenges. Viewing those issues from an objective and trusted practitioner is vital to the change process. Always viewing my clients with unconditional positive regard is essential to us being successful. Therapy can often be the first time someone gets to step out of the day to day of their lives. My hope is during this introspection, I can coach you in the direction you need to go, not where my training thinks you should go. While I may illuminate potential paths, you're taking the steps with me right behind you!

Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) is a non-directive intervention in which the therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance. Children are met with unconditional positive regard from their therapist, with a focus on cultivating a safe environment in which children feel free to express themselves fully. I bring this same approach to my work with moms who feel anxious and overwhelmed by the great and terrible adventure that is parenting. I also offer clinical supervision to post-graduate ASW's who are interested in working with children or teens.

Hi, My name is Karin Huang and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist 120305 in California. My goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can’t change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. Hi, My name is Amy Evans and I am a licensed Marriage Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California. My approach to therapy is integrative, utilizing evidence-based practices, while focusing on connecting and understanding the individual's goals and needs. I very much value a strength-based positive and supportive methodology where treatment is focused on the individual's strengths and goals. Most importantly, I work in a collaborative manner with the person seeking some change. I find that people often know what they want and can use structure and encouragement to help them reach their goals.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
