I work from a psychodynamic orientation where specific issues are seen more in the context of the whole person.
I will provide a safe environment for you to explore and understand yourself while helping you to create an insightful narrative for your life. Therapy can provide you a unique opportunity to explore your personal history in a new relationship, to see it in a new way, while you make connections between past and current conflicts and how they influence the way you relate to yourself and to others. Our work together can help you to resolve painful conflicts, enjoy relationships more fully and to experience life more deeply.

Loss? We all experience it. So why does it catch us off guard? Why are the emotions overwhelming or non-existent? Why do we struggle with concentration and exhaustion? Why do we lose interest in things that used to excite us?

Sometimes life throws a curveball that wasn't anticipated, is difficult to handle, or that just seems unfair. While some things can't be changed -- the way circumstances are experienced and the responses we make to our circumstances requires skills that can be learned and applied to improve quality of life. The things we say to ourselves when facing overwhelming circumstances, disappointment, and injustice are vitally important. Whether you contend with uninvited trauma, grief and loss, anxious or depressed moods, or challenges in significant relationships, it is important to make choices that nurture meaningful life experience.

You have moments you feel successful and for the most part are "okay", but these instances are outweighed by times you feel out of control, confused and anxious about your future. Together, I believe we can create that change. I work with people like you, who are on the edge of expansion and discovery so they can have the courage, power and integrity to create the lives they want.

Sound familiar? It is not even 9 am, and your to-do list is already overflowing. You have meetings with so many people, and many subtly give you the impression that you are not "enough." Well, you ARE enough and deserve to feel less stressed and appreciated. It has been said that anxiety is the condition of our time. We worry about people liking us, doing good enough, and simply being enough. It is time to stop. It is time to learn some simple tools to reduce the daily anxiety that is often our constant companion. If this rings true for you, I'd like to help.

Is your teenager talking about things like wanting to harm themselves or end their life? Is your teenager demonstrating signs of depression or unmanageable anxiety and you don’t know how to help? As a parent who loves their child deeply, I can only imagine how hard it is to watch your child go through this. I find that the pressures placed on teenagers in today’s environment are overwhelming.

Maybe you're dealing with a health condition, a quarter or mid-life crisis, or you have simply lost direction? Life transitions are an inevitable part of the human experience. Getting married, having a baby, moving, divorce, empty-nest, caring for aging parents, or retirement are all significant life events that can have a profound impact on your mental health and emotional wellbeing. My approach is primarily modern Psychodynamic, meaning we will work to "make the unconscious conscious" while building a safe and trusting relationship with one another.
I've learned that therapy works best when we can be two real people having an open, ongoing conversation in the room together. I specialize in treating adults, teens and couples struggling with anxiety, stress management, relationships/dating issues, depressive symptoms or simply seeking change. My approach is authentic, safe, supportive, non-judgmental, and I absolutely love the work I do. I will actively work with you toward quick relief of symptoms while we address the long-standing limiting beliefs that have been obstacles to your emotional wellness. Other areas of focus: LGBT, past trauma, self-esteem issues, creative/performing artists, college/grad students, executives.

Hi! I’m Sim and I’ve been in the field of psychology for over 10 years. I understand that the path to mental wellness can be a challenging one. However, I also believe that it is attainable. Mental well-being is a journey, not a destination and I’ve assisted many clients on that journey. I have experience with both adults and adolescents, and I utilize a variety of strategies including cognitive-behavioral techniques, client-centered work, solution-focused therapy, and relational/psychodynamic techniques.

Are you hurting, overwhelmed, unsatisfied in your relationships, or unhappy with the way you cope with the difficulties of life? I am here to help. My top priority is to create a safe place for you as we work together to uncover what’s at the root of the struggles you find yourself in. Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
