I help adults suffering anxiety, depression, grief, sexual abuse, stress, insomnia, self-doubt, and stifling blocks of fear that prevent you from doing what you want to do.
I believe: our mind & body are completely intertwined; the possibilities within every human being are limitless; and you are not your symptoms. I do not believe in limits set by a diagnosis or label for you to identify yourself by, instead I help you find your true nature, your Self, & peace within the midst of difficulty, change, loss, and the holidays! I've been a psychologist for over 30 years, yet the way I help people today is entirely different now. I use mindfulness brain-based talk therapy, and visualizations, for an integrated approach to emotional/physical/mental wellness. We focus on your current self and life as a whole.

In particular, those with childhood sexual abuse, mood disorders, anxiety, parenting, and chronic pain and more.
The work of healing the soul is what attracted me to the profession of psychology and I feel it cannot be done if there is judgment or a lack of empathy. A therapeutic relationship that is built on trust, openness and exploration is one that will heal the wounds of the past.I offer an opportunity to create that relationship and to learn how it feels to trust, share and grow. I was born in the northeast but lived in Los Angeles suburbs for 25 years before relocating to NC. I am licensed in both states. I am applying to insurances in CA, but I will take payments from patients for them to get reimbursements.

Trauma often leaves us feeling stuck, unable to trust ourselves, others, or that things can get better. It is my goal to work collaboratively with you to uncover and untangle the underlying feelings, memories, beliefs, and patterns that keep you feeling stuck. Together we will learn to make sense of your story, explore your symptoms as ways you have learned to survive, and discover ways of creating a sustainable sense of safety, and fulfillment.

Life and relationships bring vulnerability, often accompanied by pain and betrayal. Unprocessed, these experiences shape our self-image and future connections. Hurt or trauma can leave us feeling small, lonely, and burdened by secrecy or shame. Collaboratively, I help clients unlock patterns and painful experiences, fostering awareness and facilitating their journey towards embracing a fuller, unencumbered life.

I believe that where there is life, there is always hope. Even though at times you may feel hope-less, there is always the possibility of renewal and creation of the kind of existence you wish for.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
