Always accepting new patients. I have over 40 years of experience treating individuals, couples & groups. As a painter and psychoanalyst, I am especially interested in helping people deal with difficulties in their creative work and in their relationships. I have written, presented, and published psychoanalytic papers on relationships and the creative process. My latest paper, "Victims of Envy," was published in the Psychoanalytic Review in June 2019 and my book on creativity, Chaos & Control, was published by Routledge in 2018.

I specialize in grief, traumatic experience, anxiety, depression, interpersonal problems, and also enjoy working with issues of creativity and optimal self development over the lifespan. I practice from an integrative perspective that includes psychoanalytic, humanistic, and experiential approaches. My book, The Paradox of Loss: Toward a Relational Theory of Grief, describes my nonlinear, non-pathologizing, and relational understanding of grief. I am offering four groups this coming year: Recent Bereavement; Longer-Term Grief; Creative Writing and Loss; and Enhancing Communication and Connection for Improved Functioning.

I completed the adult psychoanalytic training program at NCP Los Angeles and obtained a diploma as a Psychoanalyst in June of 2024.
The nature of my work as a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist is to strive for a safe and trusting environment during the time that is shared. Together we build the relationship as patient and clinician aim to maintain a valuable and private space for us to discuss any challenging issues they are experiencing, decreasing limits and without judgment. My orientation of choice is psychodynamic. I mainly focus from the psychoanalytic relational space.

Affordable and accessible therapy is a necessity. I have two main concentrations to my practice: 1) I work with those interested in a confidential therapeutic setting to resolve complex psychological states and feelings (such as anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders, trauma, childhood, relationship difficulties, personal grief, fear, shame, worthlessness, and existential questions about meaning-in-life). 2) I work in a consultant capacity for individuals with prescribed short-term, career-minded professional goals (public speaking, presentations, social skills, deadlines, writer's block, and management strategies).

The work you can expect that we will engage in together is based on the healing power of a safe and confidential therapeutic relationship, a dynamic interaction between two people in which exploring and understanding your internal and interpersonal landscapes in the here and the now, can help you release old pain and negative patterns. The goals of this work are to come to know yourself more deeply; to live with more compassion, connectedness, satisfaction, joy and freedom. AN integrated one, primarily influenced by attachment theory, contemporary relational psychoanalysis, emotional regulation, mind-body integration, mindfulness.

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck, dissatisfied in relationships, anxious, depressed, and unsafe or uncomfortable in their bodies. Most people know what they want to change but it’s difficult because we are habitual creatures; we want to show up in the world in a different way but we’re drawn to the familiar way of doing and being. I can help you understand more about how your history, and the history of the generations before you, influences your current way of being in the world. I can help you get present and discover a more authentic way of living.

My role as a psychotherapist is to accompany people on their courageous journeys of healing, discovery, and self-expression. I enjoy working with individuals who are curious and inspired to take their inner work seriously. I believe that the narratives we tell about ourselves hold tremendous power and that, through our work together, we can become more conscious of how these stories shape our lives in order to find opportunities for new understanding and meaning making. As a depth psychotherapist, I have reverence for the wisdom of psyche, the unconscious, to help guide us to explore parts of ourselves in order to become more whole.

What is it about yourself or your life that seems problematic? It may be that you are subject to anxiety or a depression that is too absorbing, it may be that you lack the sort of confidence in your abilities to find the right way to find direction: or it may be that you feel something is missing in your life, be it an intimate relation with another or the right sort of vocation.

I have 20 years experience helping individuals, couples and groups find deeper meaning, satisfaction and inspiration in their unique experience of life. Individuals are often led to therapy by symptoms - anxiety, depression, panic attacks, failed relationships, compulsions and addictions, phobias, post-traumatic reactions and self-destructive behavior. Although symptoms can seem random and be destructive, they are important messengers guiding us toward introspection and growth. In psychotherapy we discover what lies beneath the surface of symptoms; we uncover that which has previously been unconscious.

I help adults, couples, and teens feel better, less stuck, and more aligned in their relationships, careers, and creative pursuits. My office is a judgment-free place to explore thoughts and feelings, no matter how banal or extreme they may seem. Together we identify patterns and adaptations that no longer serve us. As we become less reactive, we find we have more agency in our lives. We communicate better with others, develop more meaningful relationships, and begin to live the lives we always dreamed of living.

Scanning through this website trying to discern which therapist will be a good fit from a photograph and a blurb is tricky and also a sign of the times. Ideally less time is spent searching the web for answers and more can be spent with a person whose sole intention is to understand the complexities of your point of view, your experiences and facilitate you getting to where you want to go, while walking right along side you. Depression, anxiety, trauma, distorted relationship with food, difficulty being productive; these are all areas I feel confident I can help you with.

With so many different kinds of therapists and therapy styles, finding the right therapist can feel like a daunting task. I believe the most important factor in finding the right therapist is what we call the "fit" - how comfortable and understood you feel when sitting with a therapist. I offer an initial consultation to see what it would be like for us to work together. If you decide to keep looking, there is no charge for this session.

Research indicates that the most important factor in psychotherapy may be the alliance between client and therapist. It makes sense that any individual, couple or family would reflect heavily on this aspect of their search. Initial consultations are about providing a uniquely safe, private space for the client(s) to share thoughts, questions, feelings or concerns. Specialization in ADHD, symptoms related to individuals and couples, as well as its impact on work/life balance, sex/uality, friends & family members, as well as co-occurring disorders.

Life can be complicated, full of change and challenges. Although we have all come up with ways get through these times or cope, sometimes challenges persist, resurface or feel overwhelming. Significant change requires deep personal examination, something difficult to do on our own. Psychotherapy is an effective way to help us understand our behavior and its connection to our inner emotional experience. It helps to resolve common problems that often impact our daily functioning including depression, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, bereavement, and difficult life phases. Psychotherapy is a supportive process promoting exploration, growth and change.

Something big is happening. You could even call it a crisis. It can be overwhelming when you're going through a big change in your life or when you feel you are at a crossroads. This can happen because you realize a relationship that you're in just isn't good for you, or worse, that it's toxic. This can also happen when you're considering a career change, or choosing a career for the first time? Big decisions can leave you feeling confused, stuck/frustrated, fearful, sad, angry, lonely, and more.

I believe that change can happen when you least expect it, and therapy is a wonderful way to look at what is holding you back and understand yourself. I bring an empathic, caring persona to the therapeutic process and believe that the relationship developed in therapy is a powerful tool for insight and growth. I have worked with many patients to develop an increased capacity for self-reflection and to apply skills learned in therapy to creating a more fulfilled life. I see children, teens and adults in my practice.

I am a Certified Child and Adult Jungian Analyst. I am devoted to helping facilitate the development of a conscious balance in your life. Loss, trauma, dysfunctional relationships, addiction, creative blocks and much more can keep you stuck and stall development. I work with adult clients to help them mine the unconscious and reveal the connection between this material and behaviors and patterns that obstruct vitality. This starts with the establishment of a sound trusting therapeutic relationship. From this foundation, I support and guide you in uncovering and recovering your own resources and strengths.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
