Life post-college has left you feeling stuck. Maybe you're lonely and isolated . . . no thanks to the pandemic. Maybe your first job is super stressful, making you question if you're even in the right field to begin with. Or perhaps social anxiety is making it near-impossible to make friends. Whatever the reason, there's a disconnect between where you pictured yourself at this stage of life and your current reality.

“Feel Serene” isn’t just a tagline. It’s how I approach my work as a Licensed Professional Therapist and it’s how I help each and every one of my clients. Feel Serene Counseling exists to empower women in reaching their goals while finding peace and calm for themselves. I know a lot of women feel overwhelmed and anxious, relentlessly exhausted, and feel scared they are wounded somehow, and acutely feel the chaos that comes with unchecked boundaries and stress. I help you not by encouraging you to do more or be more, but by encouraging you to slow down and take stock of what you truly value and what you do not.

New beginnings can often be disguised as painful endings. I work closely with those who have been through tragic events, suffered childhood abuse, those who have been victimized by others, as well as those who might feel like they have nowhere left to turn. My goal is to help you find your inner strength, and to courageously be free to display it and be proud. I am empathetic to my client’s needs, ambitious to provide support, and offer a nonjudgmental space for you to share and truly be heard.

I treat teens, and adults struggling with depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, emotional regulation, grief, and more. Some clients, favor confiding in a male therapist. My integrative approach draws from a combination of practices including mindfulness-based interventions, psychodynamic therapy, CBT, and somatic practice which focuses on the mind body connection to help my clients cope with their issues, increase self-esteem, and develop emotional regulation and resiliency. In younger children, I use play therapy to facilitate communication and gain a deeper understanding of their needs.

We all want to feel good about ourselves. We want positive healthy relationships and live our lives as fully as possible. But sometimes life or relationships can become difficult and overwhelming. People come to therapy because they want to feel better. I respect the courage it takes to reach out for help in seeking a greater understanding of yourself and to work toward personal growth. My role as a therapist is to help you overcome the obstacles keeping you from feeling the way you want and from fully enjoying your life.

This negative self talk leads to depression, anxiety, low self esteem, etc.
I was trained in rendering brief and short term therapy since we all want quick results. How do I do that? I am interactive with my clients and not just provide “talk therapy”, but rather, we will co-create a plan together to help you achieve positive results. I hold my clients accountable and will assign homework. I will give you my input, impressions, and at times, challenge you when those defenses are up. In life, when we’re faced with challenges, it only promotes growth and strength. At the same time, we will give you the positive regard, reflective listening, and be your cheerleader. We will empower you, not enable you.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
