My staff and I specialize in providing neuropsychological assessments of traumatic brain injury, dementia, stroke, neurological illness, and ADHD/learning disability.
Welcome, our practice at Insight Neuropsychology specializes in personalized neuropsychological assessment and treatment services to assist you in promoting your cognitive health. Our goal is to help you learn about how your brain is functioning, as insight is the first step in learning how to improve your mental functions. Neuropsychological assessment is one of the most sensitive instruments for detecting subtle cognitive deficits that are not obvious on MRI's or other brain scans, but which can have a large impact on a person's daily functioning. In addition to assessment, we also provide supportive counseling for patients and caregivers.

Hello and welcome! I won’t pretend to know what brought you here today, because I believe we are more nuanced than our struggles and what can be described generally in a few sentences or paragraphs. Life looks different for everyone...and so does therapy. That's why I meet my clients with curiosity, openness, compassion, and dashes of humor.

Do you often find that you come back to the same place in disagreements, like you can’t see eye to eye? Perhaps you feel like you're stuck in a rut & feel like you can't get out of it. As a Jungian & humanistic therapist, I aim to provide my clients with a realistic, 360-degree, & whole-person perspective on what they bring to sessions. I also aim to provide my clients with long-term & meaningful changes. There’s no such thing as a “quick fix,” & these types of changes take time. The types of clients I typically enjoy working with include couples & families, teens, & young adults, as well as athletes of all levels.

When we seek therapy it is usually because we reach a point when our problems and challenges outweigh our ability to cope with them. Sometimes we feel stuck in old patterns of behavior or relationships that no longer work for us and we wish to make changes. I serve as a collaborator with you on your journey of self discovery as you find new ways of being and making more appropriate life choices. I provide safety and support as you experience psychological understanding and growth and remain with you as you develop ways to handle life's burdens in more empowering ways.

I have had success treating the middle aged female, 40-60, with relational, launching, re-entry and life change issues. I also integrate biofeedback of various types into the treatment program in order to either avoid or minimize medication interventions, when appropriate. I search diligently the patient's medical history and symptoms, and work with local medical providers, to rule out general medical conditons that may be driving psychological symptoms, e.g. hypothyroid and depression, or adrenal issues and anxiety or depression. Anxiety can be treated with biofeedback interventions and I provide in-office treatment and take home devices.

I believe anxiety and stress to be the foundation of many issues we all face. My first goal is to help my patients reduce stress thereby decreasing chronic pain, depression and even the ravages of disease and illness. By developing rapport and trust and then utilizing healthy coping skills, the goal of anxiety reduction can be achieved. Its important to remember that we are engaged in a collaborative process where we learn to accept, resolve, move on and let go. I find that mindfulness, meditation and breathing is highly effective in decreasing anxiety and depression.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Therapists

When should someone seek treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

People should seek a diagnosis and treatment after a head injury, especially if they were unconscious, and an early diagnosis can lead to a better recovery. Signs of a concussion include headaches, nausea or vomiting, exhaustion, dizziness, vision problems, sensitivity to light and sound, problems with attention and memory, brain fog, unusual irritability or sadness, and unusual sleep patterns.

What’s the most common treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

Treatment for a traumatic brain injury will be different depending on the severity of the problem. For mild injuries, treatment may involve rest and over-the-counter pain or headache medication. For moderate or severe injuries, treatment may involve stabilization, medication, and rehabilitative therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and counseling.

How long does it take to recover from traumatic brain injury?

The recovery time for a traumatic brain injury depends on the individual and the severity and nature of the injury; the length of time spent unconscious is often an indicator of severity. Recovery time for mild injuries may be a week or two while recovery time for more severe injuries may be six months to two years. Research suggests that the vast majority of recovery occurs in the first two years after an injury; recovery after that time frame is less certain.

What if a traumatic brain injury is left untreated?

If a traumatic brain injury is left untreated, it can lead to long-term physical and mental health problems. Physical problems may include dizziness, headaches, vision, healing, or speech loss, and an elevated risk of dementia. Psychological problems may include impairments of memory, judgment, and decision-making, depression, aggression, poor impulse control, and personality changes.
