The first time I sought therapy, my heart was broken. Not just from a relationship ending, but from a dawning realization that parts of me felt unworthy of love. Looking back now, such painful forays into therapy are also, in a way, exciting. They are a wake up call to evolve, to shed an old skin, and to transform into a more alive and pure us. To let go of worn out, imprisoning, and burdensome stories, beliefs, and defenses. The catalyst - the challenging event or circumstances that brought you to these words - is probably a doorway, and could be the beginning of a grand adventure…

Any individual that is suffering from addiction, a lack of motivation to conquer their goals, or looking to explore a deeper practice of mindfulness in their day to day life can benefit from the ongoing support that counseling can provide. Chronic relapsing, low self esteem, and barriers created through active addiction will prevent us from recovery. Maybe you have a family member that is suffering or you would like to receive more information on substance use disorder, I can help educate and provide coping strategies to give you more peace of mind as you support your loved one.

Do you find it difficult to manage emotions when they become overwhelming? My clients often feel disconnected from their bodies but would like to more deeply understand how past life experiences show up in emotions and reactions to the world. Past traumas can leave us with a sense of feeling stuck or confused. If this sounds like you, I can help you move forward with greater mind-body awareness and together we can work on learning new tools to live a more connected life with yourself and those around you. I know that reaching out for support can be very hard- and I commit to meeting you in a non-judgmental, warm and curious space.

To our First Responders, Military and their families, teachers, parents, service industry... To the people that have and are giving their lives to make other people's lives better, thank you. It's cost you. Is it time to get some assistance for yourself, too? You're older and wiser now and you want to have the life you imagined and those relationships. Seeking counseling/therapy will take a different kind of courage. Since we can only try to fix ourselves, let's work on you for a season and see what fruit comes out of that.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
