It takes courage to understand the need for healing. My mission in psychotherapy is to help you learn how to help yourself. It should be emphasized that psychotherapy is far from "one size fit all." Therefore, the art of change in psychotherapy is achieved through a thorough psychological assessment in order to apply the precise remedies to your specific challenges. As a result, healing is often achieved by re-conceptualizing your past and presence, but most importantly is to improve your outlook on the future. I have been practicing as a psychologist for 26 years, on three continents.

My clients are often highly intuitive and high achieving adults, creatives in the art and entertainment industry, helpers, parentified adult children, entrepreneurs, executives, couples, Asian American professionals, and parents. Many of us haven't had much experience with the kind of truly supportive relationships that make healing possible. A good therapeutic relationship - one that allows us to be fully ourselves while recognizing our unique potential - creates the optimal conditions for healing. I provide a place where you can feel safe to explore your most difficult feelings, to work through grief and loss, heal childhood wounds, relieve depression and anxiety, improve communication, increase self-esteem and develop more satisfying relationships. I work with individuals, couples, and groups, and I'm available for both in-person and virtual sessions.

There are infinite reasons we seek therapy. You may find yourself disconnected from your relationships and exhausted by not feeling understood. You may feel pressure to be a perfect person, partner and parent, or struggling to name your feelings or needs in your relationships. I strive to co-create an attuned, safe space and our collaboration will center around your hopes, goals, and intersectional identities. When we allow the unfolding of emotional experiences, it can lead us to the emergence of a deeper understanding of yourself, self-acceptance, and connecting to the power and participation you have in relationships.

My areas of speciality include low self-esteem, women's empowerment, anxiety, depression, attachment trauma, and escapist or numbing behaviors. Many of us are living disconnected from ourselves, believing we are deeply flawed and broken. Unresolved trauma and present day mental health challenges can leave us feeling hopeless and deeply insecure. In therapy with me, we will explore and challenge these beliefs to help you step into the fullness of who you are. As someone who has walked this path before, I deeply understand the nuanced experience of pain, shame, healing, and growth,

My name is Priscilla Willmott and I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I approach mental health issues like depression and anxiety as a natural consequence of our environment and the inability to be accepted as our true selves in the contexts we live in. Does life feel difficult to navigate, whether it's personal relationships, career or finding purpose? Are you feeling stuck, lack of energy and low motivation? Do you struggle with overthinking, rumination, spiraling, impeding your ability to make lasting changes? In today's climate, many are struggling with heightened levels of anxiety, depression, feeling overwhelmed, and facing uncertainty in navigating the complexities of relationships, careers, and overall life. Neglecting your own needs, lack of purpose, & past trauma can potentially result in enduring challenges for both your mental and physical well-being.

I'm very body-centered, drawing on trauma-informed modalities adapted for Zoom, my office, or a ranch north of Burbank through equine-assisted therapy! My work aims for less thinking and more feeling, inviting the intuition of your body to lead the way. We'll use mindfulness to access the wisdom of your subconscious and heal wounded patterns at the source through gentle sensory and energetic explorations of feelings, experiences, belief systems, and relationships. The result is... letting go of results! And cultivating loving connection with yourself. If you crave holistic, experiential, artistic therapy my approach may be for you.

Seeking therapy is a courageous act. It is a crucial step toward knowing yourself and facing the things you fear the most. Sometimes this sense of fear or anxiety has been lifelong, other times something has happened that completely upends a person’s life. There are also those who appear as though they are keeping it together, while inside they are falling apart. I work with adults, elders and teenagers who no longer want to feel controlled by their fear. They might struggle with identity, purpose, career, substance use, eating disorders, trauma and of course relationships. Many are also queer and/or artists.

Let me help. In these dark and complicated times, our lives and culture are more complex and stressful than ever before, often taking a toll on our relationships. This is often the reason clients seek therapy - the relationship with ourselves, our loved ones, our community, and the world powerfully defines whether or not we feel safe and satisfied with our life. I'd like to help you deepen your awareness of how you relate to yourself and others and support you in navigating your world. We will work toward increasing your resiliency and making change, if that's what you want and need.

I help adults make sense of their experiences in a meaningful way. People come to me who are inquisitive and trying their best, yet still feel detached and longing for a better understanding of their lives. Oftentimes they’ve been in the driver’s seat going 100 miles an hour for years and can’t quite figure out how to slow down. Together, we work to slow fast-paced life, be present, and ultimately, see the once-blurry scenes in a clearer way. Just as each road trip is unique, so too is our tailor-made therapy. If you’re open-minded, motivated, and filled with curiosity, let’s see if we’re a good match!

Every one of us faces difficult times, and some seasons of pain last longer than others. Oftentimes, we can find ourselves “stuck" and in need of some extra help. We are not made to do life alone, and I am here to support you in your journey of healing. Let therapy be something that you allow into your life, as a means of both working through pain and growing in insight as an individual.

Experiential Therapy

How does experiential therapy work?

Experiential therapy works by allowing an individual to use their creativity to re-imagine themselves and their lives in an effort to process their emotions. Experiential therapy may take many forms, including engaging clients through art, re-enactments, role-playing, music, or forms of physical recreation. By focusing on these activities, experiential therapists help individuals identify the emotions they associate with previous experiences and work together to cope with negative reactions, like fear, anger, or shame.

Is experiential therapy evidence-based?

Experiential therapy incorporates many therapy modalities, some of which have been more closely researched than others. Music therapy, for example, has been shown to help with sleep problems. Some studies find that art therapy can be beneficial for those with eating disorders or personality disorders, while other research suggests that such approaches have little impact.

How long does experiential therapy last?

The duration of experiential therapy will depend on the type of therapy used as well as the severity of the challenges an individual faces. Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Art therapy may comprise 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes and can be scheduled weekly or on an as-needed basis. For each therapy type, clients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

Does experiential therapy help with trauma?

Trauma is one area where experiential therapy may be useful. Traumatic experiences such as combat or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating visual art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. Listening to music can be relaxing, while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, or who have been physically or emotionally abused.
