I specialize in relationship issues pertaining to Infidelity; Youth (most often impacted by familial stressors) and Communication, which correlates and can manifest as obsessive thoughts, anxiety, depression and related addictions. Infidelity is a symptom of underlying issues. Trained in EMDR to identify and manage trauma, I became a therapist due to personal experience in dealing with affairs. I understand the emotional roller coaster infidelity creates. Emotional education and processing is important to understanding why you are experiencing the emotions you are dealing with.

Whatever your struggle, I want to help you overcome it. I am committed to offering a therapy experience that is both safe and flexible: one where you are free to be yourself, yet create new possibilities for your life. I believe that every human being bears unique gifts, and that together we can use your strengths to bring about life change. So, in addition to determining what has gone wrong, we will make use of what has "gone right." As a result, your therapeutic experience is likely to be both meaningful and "user-friendly."

Is ongoing daily stress taking its toll at work or home? Does it feel like the most important people in your life can't hear what you want or won't take "no" for an answer? Let's work together to manage stress and take control of emotional reactions and behaviors. When we're angry, hurt, afraid, or nervous we often react in ways that can make an already difficult situation worse. Or, we just freeze and it gets even bigger! It often feels like the more critical the situation, the less effective we are! We can help.

Are you at a crossroads? Throughout life, we experience "little deaths" that change our life’s course. Loss of a dream, health, family, the earth we stand on, job, marriage, relationship, country or beliefs can suddenly take us over a threshold, chosen or not into a new world where life no longer makes any sense. Our old tools and ways of coping or understanding our self or our world are no longer enough to pilot us to the other side of what can feel like a vast, deep and turbulent river. While often terrifying, these are the golden opportunities in which our true nature, our soul or purpose in life can be revealed.

The most fascinating and important part of my job as a therapist is how to have a really good conversation. It may sound too simple, but it cuts to the heart of what to expect from therapy. Through good conversation, you experience connection and understanding. When we are understood, difficult feelings change with resulting freedoms to engage life. Trained both as a Marriage and Family therapist and a psychoanalyst, I work with complex relationship issues, divorce and blended families, depression, anxiety, addictions, men's issues, and sexual trauma recovery, and integration of psychology and faith/spirituality.

My mission is to empower those that I work with to have meaningful connections to themselves and the world around them.I specialize in supporting individuals, couples and families who are in transition - specifically, if a family member is in treatment or struggling with abuse, trauma, eating disorders or chemical dependency. It is very important to me that I respect my clients' philosophies, values and goals in therapy. Emotional pain can reveal areas that need attention, care, and exploration. Sometimes exploring the meaningful stories behind the emotional pain can be difficult, but it can be our guide to growth and healing. I am here to help you explore emotions and thoughts while offering a safe space to cultivate letting go of the things outside of your control.

As someone who has 32+ years of living with OCD, I can say, with sincerity, that I empathize with you and I'd be honored to help.
Many of my clients struggle with distressing thoughts and feelings. My clients often make mental and physical efforts to relieve the distress but are generally unable to find lasting relief. Many suffer in silence as thoughts become too difficult to talk about. My clients want to live life without so much fear, anxiety, guilt, and time-consuming behaviors.

I specialize in treating trauma, dissociative disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, OCD, schizophrenia, and chemical dependency.
I have been practicing for over 30 years in the field of mental health and addiction. In individual therapy I utilize a psychodynamic and CBT approach in which work with clients unfold as a mutual, collaborative process occurring in an atmosphere of safety and respect. I view a clients' problem(s) in a framework that places an emphasis on how their past emotional and interpersonal experiences are affecting the way they are today. I believe that a client's unconscious can influence their inner experience (e.g., thoughts and feelings).

People seek therapy with me for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it is about something specific like a relationship problem, eating disorder, parenting issue, or many other human dilemmas. At other times it is because of general feelings of depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating or dissatisfaction at work or in their relationships. We can talk on the phone to determine what you need and then I will work closely with you to determine the best course of therapy.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
