Encino West Psychological Services provides educational advocacy and comprehensive psychoeducational assessments in areas such as learning disabilities and ADHD.
Encino West Psychological Services provides comprehensive psychological assessments for school-aged children experiencing challenges in an academic setting. As a parent with two children, I understand the anxiety that can come from dropping your children off at school every morning, knowing they will be out of your care for the next 6-8 hours. I have been advocating for the educational needs of children for many years and this journey has shed light on how important it is to know what a child or adolescent may be struggling with while at school.

In my role as a Neuropsychologist, I assess children (ages 6+) and adults for learning/processing issues that may be interfering with school and work life.
In my therapy practice (adults only) I work with individuals and couples to help build their life "tool-kits". I draw upon my diverse training as a Health Psychologist, Neuropsychologist and Yoga Teacher and incorporate both Western and Eastern philosophies and tools (cognitive-behavioral therapies, neuroscience, attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology. mindfulness/meditation, and other mind-body techniques such as relaxation training, hypnosis, visualization, etc.,) to treat a variety of symptoms and disorders. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, and human behavior in general, so that you can apply these tools to all aspects of life.

I specialize in treatment (anxiety, mood), parenting questions, relationship issues, and testing of children, teens, and adults experiencing problems with their thinking, learning, emotions, behaviors, or relationships.
I am a bilingual clinical neuropsychologist with extensive experience evaluating infants, children, adults, and elderly. I also offer therapeutic support for anxiety, depression, as well as issues related to parenting and high conflict divorce/reunification. In treatment, I do not generally espouse one particular theoretical orientation, but instead I evaluate my patients from the bio-psycho-social-spiritual model. I believe that a person is a product of their environment, thus making it important to address a presenting issue on multiple levels in order to facilitate healthy adjustment and function within the existing milieu.

I’m so happy you’re on this site and thinking about therapy. There are many factors to consider when picking a therapist and, most importantly, you want it to be the right fit for you. The relationship between a therapist and client is the strongest indicator for success in treatment, and my ultimate goal is to create a safe and secure environment. My professional and personal mindset is to be a lifelong learner. I’m always learning from clients, as there is no single approach to therapy. I believe in meeting you where you are, working side-by-side to achieve your goals, and together finding the best path to help you heal and grow.

Some of the difficulties I frequently help clients with include anxiety, depression, learning disabilities, ADHD, life transitions, and interpersonal conflicts.
Life can be overwhelming. If you find it difficult to cope at times or feel flooded by challenging emotions, you don’t have to be alone in your struggles. Together we can work through the struggles that are negatively impacting your life. Through the therapeutic process, difficulties that overwhelmed you in the past may begin to feel more manageable. You may find more room to enjoy life rather than just trying to survive it. While the process of therapy is different for everyone it usually leads to a greater sense of contentment, acceptance for oneself, and closeness with others.

I view therapy as a collaborative journey to support wellbeing on all levels: mind, body, and soul. It is a sacred space where together we can untangle the issues that are creating distress in your life, uncover and heal old wounds, discover lost and hidden treasures, and help you find your path back to wholeness. Therapy can help your child safely work through feelings such as sadness, anger, anxiety, or grief; develop a strong sense of self-esteem, and learn new skills to feel empowered and effectively make their way through an increasingly complex world.

Education and Learning Disabilities Therapists

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
