I believe each of us are incredibly unique, therefore, I want to work together to find the most effective therapeutic approach for you. My desire is to create a space in which you feel safe enough to explore your own inner world and the world around you; to address the small and larger traumas of life. I love working with clients who are courageous enough to revisit past events, explore their own conditioned worldview, ask the difficult questions, and ultimately live out the fullest expression of themselves.

It’s not that you haven’t tried to feel better, because you have. Old ways of coping are leaving you feeling alone, empty, and disconnected. Something you thought you could work through alone is now bleeding into your relationships with family, friends, and work. Falling into old patterns can be frustrating and painful. You’re at a crossroads of doing the same thing and getting the same results or trying something different. Breaking trail to a new way of living is not easy, but it is worth it. Reach out today to begin your journey.

You will have access to a safe environment where you will have the opportunity to talk openly about whatever issue or problem you may be experiencing. The best part about that is doing so with a non-judgmental, neutral therapist who wants to see you grow. Together, we can identify and change the thought and behavior patterns that keep you from feeling your best.

My specialties include self-exploration, life transitions and personal growth, women's issues, anxiety, relationship issues, and trauma.
My philosophy is simple: I believe the path to healing and growth lies in the safety and sacredness of the relationship between the client and the therapist. I will help you to describe your own feelings, something that can lead to deeper self-exploration and personal growth. I believe in you and the inherent strengths that you possess that have carried you throughout your life. I also have an in-depth understanding of how the brain works and how adverse life experiences can make our strengths difficult to access. Let's work collaboratively to unravel the ideas and beliefs that may be holding you back.

My approach is strength based ‘technical eclecticism’, tailoring interventions to the needs and preferences of each client. Therapeutic interventions take on a whole person approach and emphasize the importance of ‘person in environment’. An individual is required to navigate the overlapping systems (career, family, interpersonal relationships, community etc.) At times, a variety of stressors can compromise an individual’s healthy functioning within these symptoms and exacerbate mental health symptoms. I come alongside clients to help them develop coping skills, identify the etiology of their symptoms and process trauma.

It's hard to be stuck in unhealthy patterns and emotional blocks and it can be difficult to ask for help. Although there are many different reasons for seeking counseling, the common thread is the desire for change in your life. Whether it is a change in moods, situations, relationships, or unresolved loss, I believe in building a genuine therapeutic alliance with clients that models a successful relationship pattern. This includes a healthy relationship with yourself and is the basis for all other connections in your life.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
